4D tablet is a combination anti-tubercular medicine that helps to treat tuberculosis which is a lung disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It stops the growth of infection causing bacteria and reduces the spread of infection. However, the uses of this tablet mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.
The active ingredients of 4D tablet are Ethambutol 800 MG, Isoniazid (INH) 300 MG, Pyrazinamide 750 MG and Rifampicin 450 MG
Ethambutol and isoniazid are antibiotics that works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria that causes tuberculosis, to carry out vital functions, thereby stopping bacterial growth and prevents spreading of infection. Rifampicin works by interfering with the bacterial DNA synthesis and inactivates bacterial enzymes (RNA-polymerase) and stops the growth of bacteria. Pyrazinamide works by altering the pH in the bacterial cells and stops its growth.

4D tablet is usually well tolerated when used in the prescribed dosage guidelines. Most side effects are temporary and usually subsides on their own. However, consult your doctor if they persist for a longer duration. You may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
Take 4D tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.

Tyramine rich food such as smoked fish, meats cheese should be avoided.

Alert your doctor if you’re taking 4D tablet along with propranolol, pimozide, methotrexate, halothane, citalopram, warfarin, clopidogrel, leflunomide, teriflunomide, antacids, cholera vaccine, atorvastatin, aluminium hydroxide.
Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

If you have an allergy to ethambutol or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have swelling in the eye.
If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you have red-green color blindness. Change in thinking clearly and with logic. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Sudden change in eyesight, eye pain, or irritation. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
Avoid Alcohol
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available.
