What is Furazolidone for:

This medication is an antibacterial agent, prescribed for giardiasis and cholera. It works by killing the bacteria and protozoa.

How does Furazolidone work:

Treats Bacterial enteritis. Food poisoning. Diarrhoeas, Bacillary dysentery, Giardiasis.

How should Furazolidone be used:

Adults: 100mg 3-4 times. Children: 5mgkg daily in 4 divided doses. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth with food.

Common side effects of Furazolidone :

Hypersensitivity, hypoglycaemia, orthostatic, hypotension, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, malaise, nausea, vomiting, rash, fever, arthralgia, brown urine, haemolytic anaemia. Agranulocytosis.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Use a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis

What precautions should I take when taking Furazolidone :

If you experience Hypersensitivity and if the patient is below the age of one month.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Furazolidone with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

How does Metronidazole work:

It is used to treat dental, brain, lung, skin, vagina, bone, joint, digestive tract and blood infections.

How should Metronidazole be used:

Use Metronidazole exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Common side effects of Metronidazole :

Metronidazole may cause diarrhoea, nausea, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, constipation and dark or tea-coloured urine. These side effects are usually temporary. If you have diarrhoea, drink lots of water to replace the fluids lost. However, if you have severe diarrhoea or diarrhoea with severe stomach cramps or bloody stools, alert your doctor.

This medication is an oral anti-foaming agent, prescribed for flatulence. It works by breaking up gas bubbles, which makes gas easier to eliminate.

How does Simethicone work:

Simethicone prevents formation and eases expulsion of gas.

How should Simethicone be used:

It comes as liquid and tablet to take by mouth, with or without food. The recommended dose is 100-250 mg 3-4 timesday when needed.
