Uses and Benefits

The Ascoril Expectorant 120ml is a combination of medicine. It is used as an expectorant and mucolytic. This syrup is also used to relieve one from common cold, cough, chest tightness, influenza, and other respiratory-related infections. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Ascoril Expectorant 120ml are Bromhexine 2mg, Guaifenesin 50mg, Menthol 0.5mg, and Terbutaline 1.25mg/5ml.

Bromhexine helps in making the phlegm or mucus thinner, less viscous and expels out the mucus.
Guaifenesin helps to reduce the viscosity of the thickened mucus.
Menthol helps to relieve from minor sore throats and provides a cooling sensation.
Terbutaline works by relaxing the muscles and opens the airways thus how relieves from chest tightness and shortness of breath.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before taking the Ascoril Expectorant 120ml:

  • Hypersenstivity to any of the ingredients used in the Ascoril Expectorant 120ml such as Guaifenesin, Bromhexine, Menthol, and Terbutaline
    Acute tocolysis use
    Prolonged tocolysis use greater than 48-72 hours (SC/IV use)

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Seizure disorder
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Labor and delivery
  • TCA use within 14 days

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by the doctor.
Ascoril Expectorant 120ml is meant for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before consuming. Dosage can be administered with the cap that comes along with the container.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take Ascoril Expectorant 120ml with or without food.
Dosage as suggested by your doctor or follow the instructions given on the bottle container or on the prescription.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Drowsiness
  • Gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Headache
  • Anxiety
  • Tonic cramps
  • Palpitations
  • Tachycardia
  • Arrhythmia
  • Hypotension
  • Hypokalemia
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Lactic acidosis

Take the Ascoril Expectorant 120ml only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

Guaifenesin: This drug may be used during pregnancy; risk of fetal harm not expected based on human data.
Terbutaline: Do not take this drug during pregnancy to prevent premature labor.
Bromhexine: Do not take this drug during pregnancy because there are no controlled studies on pregnant women to prove that this drug is safe.

Lactation:

Guaifenesin: Caution advised during pregnancy; no human data available to evaluate effects on milk production.
Terbutaline: Do not take this medicine without the advice of a doctor; risk of infant harm not expected based on drug properties and insufficient human data and no data available to evaluate effects on milk production.
Bromhexine: Do not take this medicine unless until suggested by a doctor because this drug may be excreted through breast milk and can harm a breastfeeding infant.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised during pregnancy therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medicines which you start or stop.

What is Bromhexine for:

Acute and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases associated with abnormal mucous secretion and impaired mucous transport

How does Bromhexine work:

Potent mucolytic and mucokinetic agent, capable of bringing out bronchial secretion especially mucous plugs. Chronic obstructive lung disease and bronchiectisis.

How should Bromhexine be used:

Take this drug as directed by the doctor

Common side effects of Bromhexine :

Rhinorrhoea, lacrimation, gastric irritation and hypersensitivity.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Bromhexine :

If you have an allergy to bimatoprost or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Sudden change in eyesight, eye pain, or irritation. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Bromhexine with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
