What is Calamine for:

This medication is an anti-itch medication that contains mixture of zinc oxide (ZnO) with about 0.5% iron (III) oxide, prescribed for itching skin conditions. This medication in some cases is used as a mild antiseptic to arrest infections caused by scratching the affected area. Calamine is proved to be an effective medication in acne treatment.

How does Calamine work:

Treats Sunburn, insect bite, urticaria and contact dermatitis.

How should Calamine be used:

Adult: Topical- Apply 1-4 timesday. It comes as a lotion, to apply topically.

If you have an allergy to caffeine or any other part of this drug. - Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Calamine with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

What is Diphenhydramine for:

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for severe allergic conditions such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy, watery eyes. It is also used for itching of insect bites, sunburns, bee stings, poison ivy, poison oak and minor skin irritation.

How does Diphenhydramine work:

Diphenhydramine lowers or stops the bodys reaction to the allergen. It helps treat a chemical imbalance. It calms the brain. It affects the throwing up (vomiting) center in the brain.

How should Diphenhydramine be used:

PO- Adult- The recommended dose is 25 mg to 50 mg (1 to 2 capsules). Child- The recommended dose is 12.5 mg to 25 mg (1 capsule). Topical: Apply a thin layer over the affected area as directed by your physician. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food. It also comes as a cream, lotion and ointment to apply topically

Common side effects of Diphenhydramine :

Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative. Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis

Do not give BenadrylŪ Childrens Allergy FastmeltŪ if your child is allergic to peanuts or soybeans. If you have an allergy to diphenhydramine or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have asthma. If you are breast-feeding.

These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Not able to pass urine.
