Uses and Benefits

Cremaffin Fresh Tablet is used to relieve one from constipation and also indicated in colonoscopy in adults to eliminate all the feces from the bowel. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.

Mechanism of Action of Bisacodyl:

Bisacodyl acts by causing diarrhea there by cleaning the bowel by eliminating the feces from the bowel.

Contraindications and Cautions

Contraindications and Caution

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before using the Cremaffin Fresh Tablet:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredient used in the Cremaffin Fresh tablet such as Bisacodyl
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Undiagnosed nausea, vomiting
  • GI Obstruction or ileus
  • GI perforation
  • Toxic megacolon
  • Gastro enteritis
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Appendicitis
  • Severe dehydration
  • Caution:
  • Inflammatory bowel syndrome
Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Cremaffin Fresh Tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Nausea
  • Abdominal Cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Rectal sensation burning
  • Diarrhea
  • Electrolyte disturbance
  • Irritation and Proctitis

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Angioedema
  • Anaphylactoid reactions
  • Cathartic colon (Long -term use)
  • Electrolyte Imbalance (Long-term use)
How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow Cremaffin Fresh Tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break/cut/chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the tablet before food.
Onset of action 6-12 hours when consumed orally.
Dosage as recommended by your doctor or follow the instructions given on the prescription.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Severe Dehydration
Warnings and Precautions

Warnings and Precautions

Take only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Pregnancy:

May be used during pregnancy; no known risk of embryo or fetal harm based on lowest systemic absorption.

Lactation:

May be used during lactation because of lowest systemic absorption, risks of infant harm and adverse effects on milk production not expected.

Driving:

Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may need your alertness (after consuming this tablet) because the drug may cause light dizziness or temporary loss of consciousness due to vasovagal response.

Precautions
  • Keep this medication out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store below 300 C and in a hygienic place, away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry date.
  • Do not use the medicine if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is broken.
FDA Pregnancy Category

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

What is Bisacodyl for:

This medication is a stimulant laxative, prescribed for constipation. It increases intestinal activities to cause bowel movements.

How does Bisacodyl work:

Bisacodyl raises activity in the bowel.

How should Bisacodyl be used:

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, on an empty stomach. It also comes as a suppository to insert into the rectum.

Common side effects of Bisacodyl :

Mild cramps, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, stomach and intestinal irritation, faintness, irritation or burning in the rectum (from suppositories and enemas).

What do I do if I miss a dose

Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

What precautions should I take when taking Bisacodyl :

If you have an allergy to bisacodyl or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Bowel block, upset stomach, or throwing up.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad belly pain. Very hard stools (constipation). Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Bisacodyl with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

How do I store Bisacodyl :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Pregnancy Category

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
