Dulcoflex Tablet is used as a stimulant laxative to treat constipation. It helps in bowel evacuation or cleansing of the colon as a preparation for colonoscopy in adults. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.



The active ingredient of the Dulcoflex Tablet is Bisacodyl 5mg.

Bisacodyl is an organic compound used as a stimulating laxative. It works directly on the colon to produce a bowel movement. It acts by increasing movement in intensines thus helping the stool to come out with ease.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before using the Dulcoflex Tablet:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the
  • Dulcoflex Tablet such as Bisacodyl
  • Acute abdomen
  • Abdominal pain, undiagnosed
  • Undiagnosed-nausea, vomiting
  • GI obstruction or ileus
  • GI perforation
  • Toxic megacolon
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Appendicitis
  • Caution:
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of the Dulcoflex Tablet. It is generally well tolerated when used in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Nausea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Rectal sensation burning
  • Diarrhea

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Electrolyte imbalance (long term-use)
  • Cathartic colon (long term use)
How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or chew the Dulcoflex Tablet.
Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which may be dangerous to your health.
Dulcoflex Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach, do not take within 1 hour of antacids, milk or dairy products.
Take the medicine at the prescribed dose and time.


Avoid using more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience any one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Excessive loss of water and electrolytes

Take the Dulcoflex Tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:


Safety during pregnancy is not yet established. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the treatment.


Caution advised during lactation. Therefore, inform your doctor before taking the Dulcoflex Tablet.


Risk of dyspepsia and gastric irritation with milk products.

Drug Interactions:

Chances of dyspepsia and gastric irritation with antacids, increased risk of electrolyte imbalance with diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids. Therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, if you use any during the treatment.

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store below 30 degree-centigrade.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.

What is Bisacodyl for:

This medication is a stimulant laxative, prescribed for constipation. It increases intestinal activities to cause bowel movements.

How does Bisacodyl work:

Bisacodyl raises activity in the bowel.

How should Bisacodyl be used:

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, on an empty stomach. It also comes as a suppository to insert into the rectum.

Common side effects of Bisacodyl :

Mild cramps, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, stomach and intestinal irritation, faintness, irritation or burning in the rectum (from suppositories and enemas).

What do I do if I miss a dose

Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

What precautions should I take when taking Bisacodyl :

If you have an allergy to bisacodyl or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Bowel block, upset stomach, or throwing up.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad belly pain. Very hard stools (constipation). Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Bisacodyl with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

How do I store Bisacodyl :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
