Uses and Benefits

Febrex tablet 650mg is most commonly used to treat fever and mild to moderate pains such as muscle ache, headache, toothache, arthritis, backache, menstrual cramps, and post-immunization pyrexia. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctors discretion.

Composition

The active ingredient of Febrex tablet 650mg is Paracetamol (also known as Acetaminophen) 650mg.

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Paracetamol primarily has analgesic and antipyretic properties; secondarily also has anti-inflammatory properties. It produces analgesic effects by increasing the pain threshold and antipyresis by acting on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center. On the other hand, the anti-inflammatory properties help in reducing swelling and redness in the affected areas.

Contraindications and Conditions

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the tablet:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Febrex tablet 650mg such as Paracetamol/Acetaminophen

• Caution:
• Hepatic impairment
• Malnutrition
• Hypovolemia
• Chronic alcohol use

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Febrex tablet 650mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in prescribed dosage guidelines. Common ones are generally mild and may include:

• Nausea
• Skin rash
• Tinnitus
• Dryness of mouth
• Decreased appetite
• Mouth ulcer
• Gastric problems
• Palpitation
• Dizziness
• Abdominal discomfort

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

• Thrombocytopenia
• Hypokalemia
• Anemia
• Hepatotoxicity
• Anaphylaxis
• Renal tubular necrosis, acute

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not break or chew it. And pop the tablet immediately after opening it from the strip.
Avoid missing a dose. In case you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the Febrex tablet 650mg either with or without food.
For adults, the usual dosage is 1 tablet 3-4 times a day or as suggested by your physician or health care professional.
For children talk to your doctor before giving the tablet.

Warnings and Precautions

Take Febrex tablet 650mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney: Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver: Caution advised among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy: The tablet can be used during pregnancy; there has been no known risk of fetal harm so far.

Lactation: May be used while breastfeeding – no known risk of infant harm based on human data and there are no human studies available to estimate ill-effects on milk production.

Alcohol: Do not take Febrex tablet 650mg along with alcohol as it increases hepatic risk.

Drug Interactions: Affected by delayed gastric emptying, analgesic-associated nephropathy, methemoglobinemia.

FDA Pregnancy Category

Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
