Febrex LP syrup is used in the treatment of common cold and asthma and also used as a nasal decongestant. This medicine also reduces swelling of the blood vessels in eye allergy and relieves chronic idiopathic urticaria, allergic rhinitis, etc. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion



The active ingredients of Febrex LP Syrup are Levocetirizine 2.5mg and Phenylephrine 10mg.

Phenylephrine acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors, thus helps to reduce nasal congestion, allergies, fever and reduces swollen blood vessels in the nasal passage, if any.

Levocetirizine acts by blocking the histamine. Histamine gets produced in the body during allergic reactions. Thus, by blocking them, Levocetirizine reduces allergic

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the syrup:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the drugs used in Febrex LP syrup such as Levocetirizine and Phenylephrine

Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Febrex LP syrup. It is generally well tolerated when taken in prescribed dosage guidelines. Common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Headache

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Swelling of the face
  • Tachycardia
  • Palpitation
  • Difficulty in urine passing
  • Blurred vision
How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor, or follow the directions given on the bottle or container.
Febrex LP Syrup has to be administered orally. Accurately measure the correct dosage with the measuring cap or lid provided along with the container.
Try not to skip the dose. If you forget/miss any dose, take the dose when it comes to mind, but do not take double doses to compensate the missed dose which may lead to overdosage. If you are forgetting every day, set an alarm.
Take the Febrex LP syrup with food or as by the instructions are given in the prescription.
Do not give more than 4 doses in 1 day (within any given period of 24 hours). Do not use for more than 3 days at a stretch unless medically advised.


Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental over dose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may
vary but you may experience any of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Drowsiness
  • Agitation
  • Fatigue
  • Tachycardia
  • Urinary retention

Take Febrex LP syrup only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney: Doctor should be informed about your pre-existing renal problems if any. Children younger than 12 years old with kidney disease should not take the syrup.

Pregnancy: The Febrex LP syrup may be used in pregnant women under medical advice.

Lactation: The syrup is used with caution in nursing mothers, though there is no known risk of infant harm based on limited human data.

Driving: This medicine may induce sleep – varies from person to person. So not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any tasks that may need your alertness or physical stamina.

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use Febrex LP syrup beyond its expiry.

What is Levocetirizine for:

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for allergic conditions.

How does Levocetirizine work:

It blocks histamine action, which reduces allergy symptoms.

How should Levocetirizine be used:

It comes as a tablet, syrup to take by mouth with or without food. Adult: Oral- 2.5-5 mgday in the evening. Max: 5 mgday.

Common side effects of Levocetirizine :

Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Levocetirizine :

Do not give to a child who has kidney disease. If you have an allergy to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have very bad kidney disease. If you are breast-feeding.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Levocetirizine with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

How do I store Levocetirizine :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
