Meftal Spas syrup 30ml is used as an antispasmodic (reduces pain), and anti-flatulent (reduces intestinal gas) and also to relieve from baby colic (episodes of crying for more than 3 hours). However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.
The active ingredients of Meftal Spas Syrup 30ml are Dicyclomine (or Dicycloverine) 10mg and Simethicone 40mg.
Dicyclomine (or Dicycloverine) is an anticholinergic drug that reduces muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract through a process of nonselective smooth muscle relaxation. An anticholinergic agent is basically a substance which blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in both central and peripheral nervous systems. It inhibits the parasympathetic nerve impulses by selectively blocking the binding of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine to its receptor in nerve cells.
On the other hand, Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent which acts by reducing gas from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor, or follow the directions given on the bottle or container.
Meftal Spas 10ml syrup is meant for oral administration. Shake the bottle well, before consumption. Dosage can be administered with the cap that comes along with the container.
Avoid forgetting/missing a dose. If you do, give the dose to your child as soon as you remember; but if it is time for the next dose, skip it and give it according to the normal schedule. Don’t give two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your child?s health.
Can be administered 15 minutes before meals.
Do not give more than 3 times in a day, or as directed by your pediatrician or pharmacist.
Do not administer for more than 3 days except on the advice of a medical practitioner.
Avoid giving more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental over dose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but your child may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

Alcohol: Alcohol can increase the list of side effects caused by Dicyclomine
This medication is an anticholinergic, prescribed for irritable bowel syndrome. It blocks a chemical in the smooth muscle of the stomach and intestines.
Dicyclomine slows movement in the GI (gastrointestinal) tract, lowering the number of spasms.
Adult: PO- 10-20 mg 3 timesday. IM- 20 mg 4 timesday for 1-2 days. Replace with oral therapy as soon as possible. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth with or without food.
Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative. - Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often.
Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
Do not give this drug to an infant younger than 6 months of age. If you have an allergy to dicyclomine or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Enlarged prostate, glaucoma, bowel block, myasthenia gravis, or trouble passing urine. If you are breast-feeding.
If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Change in thinking clearly and with logic. Not able to pass urine. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
Store it at room temperature. Keep this medication in the container it came in and out of the reach of children. Protect it from light and heat.
Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
