Telma AM Tablet 40mg is an anti-hypertensive medicine which helps to reduce blood pressure by widening the blood vessels and also used In the treatment of diabetic nephropathy in hypertensive patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. This tablet is also used in patients with congestive heart failure and angina (Chest pain). However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.



The active ingredients of Telma AM Tablet 40mg are Telmisartan 40mg and Amlodipine 5mg.

Telmisartan acts by selectively antagonizing Angiotensin-2 AT 1 receptor. With this, it reduces vasoconstriction and blood pressure.
Amlodipine works by widening the walls of the blood vessels thereby lowers the blood pressure and also helps to improve the supply of blood to the heart.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Telma AM Tablet 40mg:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the Telma AM tablet 40mg such as Telmisartan and Amlodipine
  • Caution:
  • Renal artery stenosis
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment, severe
  • Volume depletion
  • Hyponatremia
  • Severe CHF
  • Severe aortic stenosis
Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Back pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Peripheral edema
  • Fatigue
  • Palpitations
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Eczematous eruptions

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Hypersensitivity reaction
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Angioedema
  • Hypotension, severe
  • Hyperkalemia
  • Renal impairment
  • Anemia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Rhabdomyolysis
  • Angina exacerbation
  • MI
  • Hypotension acute

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break or chew the Telma AM Tablet 40mg.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Telma AM Tablet 40mg may be taken with or without food.
Take the dosage as directed by your doctor.


Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience any one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Hypotension
  • Bradycardia
  • Tachycardia
  • Dizziness
  • Acute renal failure and serum creatinine
  • Peripheral vasodilation with marked hypotension and possible reflex tachycardia

Take the tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:


Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.


Caution advised among people with hepatic-related problems and dosage adjustment may be needed. If liver impairment is severe this medicine is contraindicated in such patients so it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this Telma AM Tablet 40mg.


This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant because there is positive evidence of human fetal risk.


Do not take this medicine if you are a nursing mother because it is not known whether this drug could harm a breastfed infant or not.


Do not drink alcohol if you are taking this medicine because alcohol may decrease your blood pressure and increases the side effects of Telmisartan.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other drugs such as Digoxin, Lithium, Diuretic or water pill, Ramipril or other BP medicines and NSAID’s, Antifungals, Azoles, Ritonavir, Nitroglycerin, Simvastatin, etc. However, inform your doctor about your previous and current history of medicines which you start or stop.

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Keep the medicine in room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use Telma AM tablet 40mg beyond its expiry.
  • Do not use Telma AM Tablet 40mg if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is broken.
  • Avoid sudden too quick sitting or lying positions to prevent a fall because the tablet some times lead to postural hypotension.

What is Amlodipine for:

It is used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain or pressure (angina).

How does Amlodipine work:

It is a calcium channel blocker. It lowers the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels. It controls chest pain by increasing blood supply to the heart muscle. If taken regularly, amlodipine controls chest pain, but it does not stop chest pain once it starts.

How should Amlodipine be used:

Take Amlodipine exactly as directed by your doctor. - Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor. - Amlodipine must be taken regularly for it to work well. - Continue taking Amlodipine even when you feel better. - Do not stop taking it unless instructed by your doctor. - You may take Amlodipine with or without food. - Try to take it at the same time each day.

Common side effects of Amlodipine :

Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful while climbing. - Headache. - Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. - Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative. - Swelling in the arms or legs.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Amlodipine :

Alert your doctor if you have heart or liver disease. - Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. - Do not breastfeed while you are being treated with Amlodipine.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. - Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. - These include wheezing, chest tightness, fever, itching, bad cough, blue or gray skin color, seizures, or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. - Very low blood sugar or very high blood sugar. - Very bad dizziness. - Trouble breathing. - Feeling cold. - Very bad belly pain. - Very upset stomach or throwing up. - Very loose stools (diarrhea). - A big weight loss. - Very bad muscle pain or weakness. - Feeling very tired or weak. - Any rash. - Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Amlodipine with other medicines:

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: Medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease. - Antiviral medicines such as ritonavir. - Antifungal medicines such as itraconazole, ketoconazole. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
