What is Levamisole for:

This medication is an anthelminthic and immunomodulator, prescribed for cancer treatment and also used for roundworm infection. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells and slows their growth and spread in the body.

How does Levamisole work:

It is used in the treatment of colon cancer.

How should Levamisole be used:

This medication is available in the form of tablet to take by mouth once a day, with food and glass of water. The recommended dose is 150mgday, in 3 equally divided doses, by mouth for 3 days. Maintenance- three-day course every two weeks for a year.

Common side effects of Levamisole :

Levamisole may cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert. - Other side effects of Levamisole are generally mild and may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and headache.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Levamisole :

Alert your doctor if you have blood disorders.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Very loose stools (diarrhea). Very bad belly pain. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Levamisole with other medicines:

Alert your doctor quickly if you are taking phenytoin (an epilepsy medicine) or warfarin (a blood-thinning medicine). - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any food restrictions

Avoid alcohol. - You should not take alcohol while you are being treated with Levamisole. The combination may cause you to feel flushed and dizzy.

How do I store Levamisole :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
