      Afdura tablet is an alpha-adrenergic antagonist that is used in men to relieve the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) such as painful urination, difficulty in passing urine and urinary urgency or frequency. This medicine is not recommended in patients with a known history of allergy to Alfuzosin and patients with risk of erectile dysfunction. However, the uses of the medicine mentioned here are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

      The active ingredients of Afdura are Alfuzosin (10MG) and Dutasteride (0.5MG)

      Alfuzosin is an alpha blocker that works by relaxing the muscles of the prostate gland and bladder and relieves the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. This helps to fully drain the bladder and reduces the need to pass urine frequently and urgently in people with Benign prostate hyperplasia. Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that helps in shrinking the prostate gland by decreasing the level of testosterone which helps the prostate gland grow.

      • Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients used in tablet
      • History of orthostatic hypotension
      • Severe hepatic impairment
      • Concurrent use with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (Ketoconazole, Ritonavir)

      • Coronary artery disease

      The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Afdura. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dose. More common ones are generally mild and you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Fever with chills
      • Dizziness
      • Tiredness
      • Chest pain
      • Cough
      • Upper respiratory tract infection
      • Trouble sleeping
      • Headache
      • Orthostatic hypotension
      • Constipation
      • Difficulty with swallowing

      Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

      • Abnormal ejaculation
      • Runny nose
      • Pruritis
      • Stevens-Johnson syndrome
      How to Use

      How to Use

      Take Afdura tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet should be taken with food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking Afdura tablet more than the prescribed dosage. There were no reports of overdose during the clinical development program for this medicine. In case of an accidental overdose of the medicine, promptly ask for medical advice. Depending on the dosage of the tablet, symptoms may vary in individuals, you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

      • Severe hypotensive effects
      • Vomiting
      • Diarrhea
      • Palpitations
      • Dermatitis

      Take the tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the Afdura tablet may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      Among people with renal problems, extreme caution is recommended. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe kidney diseases.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe liver diseases.

      Pregnancy:

      Afdura tablet is not recommended for pregnant women as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This tablet is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with Afdura is not recommended as it increases side effects of the tablet. If found any symptoms of extreme drowsiness, vomiting, confusion, report to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      This medicine may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, difficulty in concentration, fatigue, light headedness. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Grape fruit juice should be avoided while taking this medicine.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Afdura tablet along with cimetidine, ketoconazole, paroxetine, diclofenac, warfarin, furosemide, erythromycin, diltiazem.

      What is Alfuzosin for:

      It is used in men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, which include difficulty urinating, painful urination, and urinary frequency and urgency. It is used to treat kidney stones.

      How does Alfuzosin work:

      Alfuzosin calms muscles of the prostate and bladder to allow the urine to flow more easily

      How should Alfuzosin be used:

      It is usually taken once a day, immediately after a meal. If you are taking Alfuzosin for the very first time, take it just before you sleep. Thereafter, take it as instructed by your doctor.Try to take it at the same time each day. Swallow Alfuzosin whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Alfuzosin must be taken regularly for it to be effective.Continue taking it even when there are signs of improvement. Do not stop taking Alfuzosin unless instructed by the doctor.

      Common side effects of Alfuzosin :

      Feeling dizzy, headache, feeling tired or weak, change in sex ability. This most often goes back to normal.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Alfuzosin :

      Alert your doctor if you have liver disease, if you or your family members have ever had prostate cancer, if you have low blood pressure or if you have ever fainted or felt dizzy when you get up from a sitting or lying down position.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      Seek help if you think there was an overdose or signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Alert your doctor if you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, very bad dizziness or passing out; Chest pain or pressure; Very bad headache; Dark urine or yellow skin or eyes; or Any rash.

      Can I take Alfuzosin with other medicines:

      Do not take antifungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole, or antivirals such as ritonavir together with Alfuzosin. - Do not take Alfuzosin if you have taken other similar medicines, such as doxazosin or prazosin. - Alert your doctor if you are taking any medicines, especially those listed here: - high blood pressure medicines. - heart medicines, such as nitrates. - epilepsy medicines, such as carbamazepine, phenytoin or phenobarbitone. - antibiotics, such as clarithromycin, erythromycin or rifampicin. - medicines for erection problems, such as sildenafil, taladafil or vardenafil. - mood medicines, such as nefazodone, thioridazine or ziprasidone. - cimetidine (a gastric medicine). - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
