Uses and Benefits

Afla B2 capsule is a nutritional supplement indicated for joint pain, swelling, stiffness and other symptoms of arthritis. This medicine is a resin herbal extract which has anti-inflammatory effects that helps in inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. The capsule increases bone strength & mineral content and also reduces the chance of fall & fracture. It prevents the loss of cartilage, reduces joint swelling and has immune-balancing properties and maintains hair, skin and nails healthy. The capsule is prescribed for the treatment of joint pains, osteomalacia, osteoarthritis, rickets. It also enables protection against infection and help in iron absorption and also stimulates synthesis of collagen in skin. However, the uses of the capsule mentioned here are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

Composition

The active ingredients of Afla B2 capsule are Aflapin (100Mg) and Undenatured type 2 collagen (40Mg)

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Afla B2 capsule contains calcium supplements that regenerates and maintains mechanical properties of the cartilage and provide strength in load bearing bones, thereby improving flexibility in joints. Aflapin, a selective and most potent 5-LOX inhibitor, which significantly reduces inflammation, joint pains, stiffness and improves physical function and mobility. It also prevents the loss of cartilage (soft tissue that cushions the joints). Collagen is a major constituent of bone cartilage and loss of collagen leads to osteoarthritis and cartilage damage. Collagen supplementation has significant role in treating and preventing osteoarthritis.

Contraindications and Caution

Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their healthcare professionals before using Afla B2 capsule:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the capsule
• Hypercalcaemia
• Asthma

• Caution:
• High levels of vitamin D (hypervitaminosis D)
• Malabsorption
• Phenylketonuria
• Blood clotting disorders
• Gall stones
• Renal and hepatic impairment
• Pregnancy and lactation

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Afla B2 capsule. It is usually well tolerated when taken in the recommended dosage guidelines. Most of the side effects are generally mild and you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

• Loss of appetite
• Musculoskeletal pain (bone, muscle or joint pain)
• Dry mouth
• Muscle pain
• Increased thirst
• Metallic taste
• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Stomach upset
• Difficult urination

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

• Swelling of face, lips
• Pruritis, rash
• Flatulence
• Blue or grey skin colour
• Malignant cerebral tumours
• Kidney stones

How to Use

Take Afla B2 capsule as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the capsule.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
The capsule can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. Take the capsule at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested. even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

Warnings and Precautions

Use this capsule on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Afla B2 capsule may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine.

Liver:

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe liver disease. If you have any hepatic problems, we recommend you to consult your doctor before the consumption of this capsule.

Pregnancy:

Afla B2 capsule might be risky to use during pregnancy. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

Use of excessive amounts of cholecalciferol in nursing mothers may result in hypercalcaemia in infants which may lead to supravalvular aortic syndrome, the features of may include retinopathy, mental or growth retardation. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Afla B2 capsule is not recommended as it increases side effects of the medicine. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the capsule, report to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments of the medicine may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

Driving:

The capsule does not cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the medicine, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Foods that are rich in oxalic acid (e.g., spinach) and phytic acid (e.g., whole cereals) may reduce calcium absorption by formation of insoluble calcium salts.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Afla B2 capsule with warfarin (Coumadin), tetracyclines, benzalkonium chloride, proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, rabeprazole), H2 blockers (cimetidine, ranitidine, famotidine), antacids containing aluminium salts, thiazide diuretics decreases urinary excretion of calcium, ibuprofen, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam and other NSAIDs.

FDA Pregnancy Category

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
