      Alaspan tablet is an anti-allergic medicine belonging to group of medicine called anti-histamines. It is predominantly used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, urticaria, hay fever and nasal congestion. It is prescribed for treating common cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing, itchy throat, cough, congestion, itchy/watery eyes or for skin rashes such as chronic nettle rash, idiopathic urticaria in adult and children above 6 years of age. This medicine is effective in treating both seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis which occurs at any time of the year. However, the uses of the tablet mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Alaspan tablet the tablet is well tolerated when taken in the recommended dosage guidelines. Most of the side effects are generally mild and you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      How to Use

      Take Alaspan tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet can be taken after with or without food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Alaspan tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      Kidney:

      Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this tablet.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the medicine may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine.

      Pregnancy:

      This tablet is considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      The medicine is likely safe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with this tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as headache, dizziness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, fatigue. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      There are no known food interactions with this tablet.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Alaspan tablet with hepatic microsomal enzymes (azithromycin, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, ketoconazole).

      This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for allergic conditions.

      How does Loratadine work:

      How should Loratadine be used:

      It comes as a tablet, syrup, and suspension to take by mouth with or without food. Po- Adults: 10 mg daily as a single dose. Children: <30kg- 5 mg once a day; > 30 kg: 10 mg once a day.

      Common side effects of Loratadine :

      Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Headache. Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

      What precautions should I take when taking Loratadine :

      If you have an allergy to loratadine or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you are breast-feeding.

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Feeling very tired or weak. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Loratadine with other medicines:

      Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
