Aldactone 50MG tablet is used alone or in combination with other medicines in treatment of resistant oedema associated with chronic heart failure, resistant hypertension, hepatic cirrhosis and secondary hyperaldosteronism (excess aldosterone production due to reduced blood flow to kidneys). The tablet prevents your body from absorbing too much salt and allows it to be removed through urine and prevents swelling and oedema in the body. It also decreases the strains on blood vessels and heart, thereby decreasing high blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attacks, stroke and kidney problems. Frequent monitoring of electrolytes level and blood pressure is necessary during treatment with this tablet. However, the uses mentioned are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

Take Aldactone 50MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
The tablet should be taken with food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. It is best to take this medicine in the morning or before four hours of going to bed as it contains a diuretic and will make you urinate frequently.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Overdosage

What is Spironolactone for:

This medication is a potassium-sparing diuretic, prescribed for hyperaldosteronism, low potassium levels, and for edema (fluid retention) caused by various conditions. It works by blocking the hormone aldosterone.

How does Spironolactone work:

Spironolactone stops potassium loss. It lowers secretion from skin glands.

How should Spironolactone be used:

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food. The recommended dose range is 50 to 400mgday for 3 to 4 weeks.

Common side effects of Spironolactone :

High potassium level. Signs include feeling weak, lightheaded, dizzy, feel like passing out, or have numbness or tingling. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Change in sex ability. This most often goes back to normal.

What do I do if I miss a dose
