      Allercet DC tablet is an anti-allergic medicine belonging to group of medicines called anti-histamines. It is predominantly used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, hay fever and nasal congestion. It is prescribed for treating common cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing, itchy throat, cough, congestion, itchy/watery eyes or for skin rashes such as chronic nettle rash, idiopathic urticaria in adult and children. This medicine is effective in treating both seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis which occurs at any time of the year. However, the uses of the tablet mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      How to Use

      Take Allercet DC tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet can be taken after with or without food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Allercet DC tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      Kidney:

      Extreme caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this tablet. However, it is not prescribed in patients with severe renal impairment.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the medicine may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine.

      Pregnancy:

      This tablet is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown low or no effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      The medicine is likely safe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with this tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as headache, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the expectorant should be reported to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, difficulty in concentration, fatigue, light headedness. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      There are no known food interactions with this tablet.

Alert your doctor if you are taking Allercet DC tablet with alprazolam, tramadol, codeine, zolpidem, pregabalin, gabapentin, lorazepam, isocarboxazid.

      What is Phenylephrine for:

      This medication is a selective alpha agonist, used to increase blood pressure and topically as a nasal decongestant. It is also used in the eye to dilate the pupil or to constrict superficial blood vessels in eye allergy. It works by reducing swelling of the blood vessels in the nasal passages.

      How does Phenylephrine work:

      Phenylephrine shrinks swollen nose tissue and opens up passages. It shrinks blood vessels to raise blood pressure. It helps some numbing drugs work longer.

      How should Phenylephrine be used:

      It comes as a tablet, a liquid, or a dissolving strip to take by mouth. It is also comes as eye drops and nasal solution, instilled over affected area.

      Common side effects of Phenylephrine :

      High blood pressure. Nervous and excitable. Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often. Not able to sleep.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

      What precautions should I take when taking Phenylephrine :

      If you have an allergy to phenylephrine or any other part of this drug. If you have a sulfite allergy, talk with your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have taken isocarboxazid, phenelzine, or tranylcypromine in the last 14 days. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (eg, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine) must be stopped 14 days before this drug is started. Taking both at the same time could cause risky high blood pressure.

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Chest pain or pressure, a fast heartbeat, or passing out. Very bad headache. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
