      Altraz tablet is used alone or with other treatments such as radiation or surgery to treat early breast cancer in postmenopausal women. This medicine can also be used as the first line treatment of advanced breast cancer that has spread within the breast or to other areas of the body. It works by altering the production of hormones in the body that are essential for the growth and spread of breast cancer. It is also used to treat women whose breast cancer has worsened after tamoxifen therapy. However, the uses mentioned are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Anastrozole works by blocking an enzyme aromatase which is responsible for the production of oestrogens thus reducing the amount of oestrogen in postmenopausal women. This in turn decreases the size and blocks the growth of breast cancer and spreading of cancer cells to other parts of the body.

      How to Use

      Take Altraz tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. The tablet is usually taken not more than once a day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking more than the recommended dosage. In case of accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage of Altraz tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Hypertension
      • Dizziness
      • Lymphoedema
      • Bone fracture

      Take Altraz tablet only on the advice of medical practitioner. Dosage adjustments or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      Extreme caution is advised among patients with renal problems. Dose adjustments may be needed. Potassium and creatinine levels should be monitored. If you have any kidney disease, it is recommended to you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, this medicine is not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed on the basis of clinical condition of the patient. We recommend you to consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

      Pregnancy:

      Altraz tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. However, in some life-threatening situations, doctors may rarely prescribe if the benefits are more than the potential risks. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      The medicine is unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

      Alcohol:

      Interaction of alcohol with this medicine is unknown. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      There are no known food interactions with this medicine.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Altraz tablet with oestradiol, tamoxifen, thalidomide.

      What is Anastrozole for:

      It is used to treat breast cancer in women along with other treatments, such as surgery and radiation. It is used in women after menopause (end of monthly menstrual periods).

      How does Anastrozole work:

      It is in a class of medications called nonsteriodal aromatase inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of oestrogen the body makes. This lowers the chance for spread of the cancer.

      How should Anastrozole be used:

      Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.

      Common side effects of Anastrozole :

      Flushing. Wearing layers of clothes or summer clothes and staying in cool places may help. Feeling tired or weak. Headache. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Joint pain. Not able to sleep. Cough. Sore throat. High cholesterol level. Vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge. Weak bones

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Anastrozole :

      If you have an allergy to anastrozole or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant. If you have not stopped your period.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Chest pain or pressure. Trouble breathing. Swelling, warmth, or pain in the leg or arm. Very bad headache. Signs of low mood (depression), thoughts of killing yourself, nervousness, emotional ups and downs, thinking that is not normal, anxiety, or lack of interest in life. Very bad belly pain. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Not able to eat. Very loose stools (diarrhea). Yellow skin or eyes. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
