Amaryl MV Tablet 2mg is used to treat type-2 diabetes. It helps to reduce or control hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels in the blood); more importantly, lowers postprandial blood glucose levels and thus reduces the risk of macrovascular complications. This medicine may also be used with other drugs as a combination therapy. The medicine further helps to prevent blindness, kidney damage, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and other problems caused by type 2 diabetes. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this drug may be used upon doctors discretion.
The active ingredients of Amaryl MV Tablet 2mg are Glimepiride 2mg, Metformin 500mg and Voglibose 0.2mg.
Metformin works by decreasing hepatic glucose production by withholding gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. This slows down the intestinal absorption of glucose and improves insulin sensitivity.
On the other hand, Glimepiride acts as an insulin secretagogue. It lowers blood sugar by stimulating the release of insulin by pancreatic beta cells and by inducing increased activity of intracellular insulin receptors.
Voglibose specifically withholds the alpha-glucosidase receptors in alimentary canal. These receptors cause sudden rise in sugar levels after meals. Therefore, the inhibition of these receptors results in reduction in absorption and digestion of carbohydrates and also reduces the sudden increase of sugar levels in blood.
