      Amifru 40MG tablet is a diuretic or water pill used alone or in combination with other medicines to control oedema and high blood pressure. The tablet prevents your body from absorbing too much salt and allows it to be removed through urine and prevents swelling and oedema in the body. The medicine is also used in treating congestive heart failure characterised by shortness of breath, swollen legs, rapid heartbeat and decrease in the blood flow to the body parts. It also decreases the strains on blood vessels and heart, thereby decreasing high blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attacks, stroke and kidney problems. Frequent monitoring of electrolytes level and blood pressure is necessary during treatment with this tablet. However, the uses mentioned are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      How to Use

      Take Amifru 40MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, you could take it with food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. It is best to take this medicine in the morning or before four hours of going to bed as it contains a diuretic and will make you urinate frequently.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking more than the recommended dosage. In case of accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage of Amifru 40MG tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Profound diuresis resulting in dehydration
      • Blood volume reduction
      • Somnolence
      • Confusion
      • Electrolyte disturbances
      • Hypotension
      • Gastrointestinal disturbances
      • Administer fluid and electrolyte replacement as required for extensive fluid loss. Administer activated charcoal within 1 hour of ingesting toxic doses.

      Kidney:

      Extreme caution is advised among patients with known history of kidney diseases due to increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed. Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is recommended while taking this tablet. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Close monitoring of liver function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any liver problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the taking this tablet.

      Pregnancy:

      Use of Amifru 40MG tablet is not advised unless the clinical condition of the patient requires treatment. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This medicine is considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since the effect of the medicine on infants is not clearly established, we recommend that you to consult your doctor before consuming the tablet.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with Amifru 40MG tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as difficulty in concentration, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Potassium rich diet should be avoided.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Amifru 40MG tablet with dexamethasone Na phosphate, hypokalaemia with K-spring diuretics, cardiac glycosides, lithium, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, amphotericin B, aminoglycoside antibiotics, toxicity with digoxin, NSAIDs, metformin.
