Azeelarc 250Mg tablet is a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, ear, nose, throat, skin, stomach, bones, lungs and intestine. It can also be used in combination with other antibiotics to treat certain infections caused by sexually transmitted organisms like Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The medicine kills or stops the infection causing bacteria from growing. It is ineffective against infections caused by viruses. This tablet is prescribed for the treatment of community acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections, tonsilitis, gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis, pharyngitis, mycobacterium avium complex, prophylaxis for rheumatic fever. However, the uses of this tablet mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their healthcare professionals before using Azeelarc tablet:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the tablet and other macrolide antibiotics
  • History of hepatic dysfunction or cholestatic jaundice following previous antibiotic use

How to Use

How to Use

Take Azeelarc 250Mg tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
The tablet is best taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes or preferably two hours before meal. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun. Stopping the medication too early can allow the growth of the bacteria to begin, which can lead to an infection relapse.

Overdosage

Avoid taking Azeelarc 250Mg tablet more than the prescribed dosage. In case of overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage of the medicine, symptoms may vary in individuals, you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

Use Azeelarc 250Mg tablet on the advice of medical practitioner. Complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution is advised among patients with severe renal impairment. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed. Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is recommended while taking this tablet. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Liver:

The tablet should be used with caution in patients with moderate and severe liver disease. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before the use. Inform your doctor if you develop signs of jaundice like yellowing of skin and eyes, itching and clay-colored stools while taking this tablet.

Pregnancy:

Azeelarc tablet is generally considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since the effect of the medicine on fetus is not clearly established, we recommend that you to consult your doctor before consuming the tablet.

Lactation:

This medication is passed to infants through mother’s milk. Breastfed infants should be closely monitored. Since limited information is available about the safety of taking this tablet, consult your doctor if you are nursing mother and stay on the safe side.

Alcohol:

Do not take this medicine along with alcohol beverages as it may increase concentration of the medicine and this may cause severe adverse effects. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, report to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

The medicine does not affect your ability to drive. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Drug Interactions:

All medicines interact differently for person to person. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you’re taking Azeelarc 250Mg tablet along with quinidine, procainamide, atorvastatin, warfarin, cimetidine, cisapride, pimozide, alprazolam, clobazam, ergotamine, phenytoin, digoxin, colchicine.

How should Azithromycin be used:

Take Azithromycin exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor. Take Azithromycin at regular intervals as instructed. Take it at the same time each day. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take it even when you feel better. You must complete the entire course of antibiotic. If you dont, the infection will not clear completely. If you have been given capsules, take them on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food, with plenty of water. If you have been given tablets, swallow them whole with plenty of water. You may take the tablets with or without food. Take them after food if you experience any stomach discomfort. If you have been given an oral suspension, shake it well before use to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose. You may take the suspension with or without food. Take it after food if you experience any stomach discomfort.

Common side effects of Azithromycin :

Belly pain. - Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies.

What precautions should I take when taking Azithromycin :

Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions (breathlessness, rashes, swollen mouth or eyes) to similar antibiotics such as clarithromycin, erythromycin or any other macrolide antibiotics.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. - Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. - Chest pain or pressure. Very bad belly pain. - Very upset stomach or throwing up. - Not able to eat. - Feeling very tired or weak. - Very bad back pain. - Any bruising or bleeding. - Dark urine or yellow skin or eyes. - Night sweats. - A big weight loss. - Fever that does not go away. - Any rash. - Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Azithromycin with other medicines:

Do not take antacids together with Azithromycin. Antacids could reduce the effectiveness of Azithromycin. If you must take antacids, take them at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after Azithromycin. - Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - heart medicines such as digoxin, digitoxin and amiodarone. - warfarin (a blood-thinning medicine). - lovastatin and other similar cholesterol medicines. - migraine medicines that contain ergotamine. - other medicines such as nelfinavir, triazolam. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
