Biggaba NT tablet is tricyclic anti-depressant used for the treatment of neuropathic pain, depression, postherpetic neuralgia, anxiety disorders, certain type of seizures, epilepsy, fibromyalgia (severe muscle pain and tenderness with altered sleep cycles and mood) and chronic pain caused by nerve damage due to spinal cord injury or diabetes. The tablet helps many people to recover from depression by improving their mood, relieving from nerve pain and improve nerve conduction. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Biggaba NT tablet are Nortriptyline 10 Mg and Pregabalin 75Mg.

Nortriptyline tricyclic antidepressant, works by increasing the levels of chemical messengers – serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain that stops the movement of pain signals and maintains mental balance. Pregabalin, an analog of neurotransmitter GABA, works by reducing the levels of chemical transmitters (glutamate, dopamine) and reduces pain by modulating calcium channel activity of nerve cells, protects nerve fibres and rejuvenates damaged nerve cells, together relieving neuropathic pain.

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the tablet formulation.

How to Use

Take Biggaba NT tablet as instructed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine for durations shorter or longer than suggested by your doctor as it has a very high potential of becoming habit-forming. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose, if you do, take the Biggaba NT tablet as soon as remember. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Biggaba NT tablet can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. Take the tablet at the same time as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body preferably in the evening.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Biggaba NT tab, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • CNS depression
  • Cardiac dysrhythmias
  • Convulsions
  • Restlessness
  • Seizures
  • Severe hypotension
  • Hypothermia

Use this tablet only on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Biggaba NT tablet may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of Biggaba NT tablet.

Liver:

Extreme caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the Biggaba NT tab may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, use of this medicine is not suggested in patients with moderate to severe liver diseases. Any symptoms such as nausea, fever, dark urine etc should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Pregnancy:

Biggaba NT tablet might be risky to use during pregnancy as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is likely unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Biggaba NT tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects and causes extreme drowsiness, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the tablet should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

Biggaba NT tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, so do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Grape fruit juice or grape fruit containing foods have shown to scale back the effect of Biggaba NT tablet.

Drug Interactions:

Alert your doctor if you are taking Biggaba NT tab with any of the below medicines:

  • Antihypertensive drugs: Guanethidine, debrisoquine, betanidine, Clonidine
  • ACE inhibitors
  • Chlorpropamide – Increased risk of hypoglycaemia
  • Cimetidine, methylphenidate, anti-psychotics
  • Opiates: Oxycodone
  • Benzodiazepines: Lorazepam
  • Barbiturates

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

This medication is an antidepressant, prescribed for depression.

How does Nortriptyline work:

It increases the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed to maintain mental balance.

How should Nortriptyline be used:

Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach. Take at bedtime if it causes sleepiness. There is a liquid (solution) if you cannot swallow pills. Those who have feeding tubes may also use the liquid. Flush the feeding tube before and after this drug is given.

Common side effects of Nortriptyline :

Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative. Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Nortriptyline :

If you have an allergy to nortriptyline or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have had a recent heart attack. If you have taken isocarboxazid, phenelzine, or tranylcypromine in the last 14 days. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (eg, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine) must be stopped 14 days before this drug is started. Taking both at the same time could cause risky high blood pressure. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant. If you are breast-feeding.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you are planning to harm yourself or the want to harm yourself gets worse. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Change in thinking clearly and with logic. Not able to pass urine. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
