      Bionesp 25MCG injection belongs to erythropoiesis stimulating agents, is used to treat anaemia (low count of red blood cells) caused by kidney failure (a condition where your kidneys stop functioning over a period and cannot produce enough erythropoietin hormone responsible for formation of RBC) or chemotherapy (medicines used to treat cancer). This medicine works by boosting the bone marrow (the spongy tissue in the centre of the bones) to increase the production of red blood cells. It is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age. However, the uses of this injection mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Bionesp 25MCG injection is usually well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. Most of the side effects are generally mild and you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling)
      • High blood pressure
      • Blood clots (thrombosis)
      • Fluid retention (oedema)
      • Skin rash and itching
      • Difficulty in breathing and swallowing
      • Cough
      • Anxiety
      • Pale skin
      • Excessive tiredness and weakness
      • Dizziness and fainting
      • Diarrhoea

      Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

      • Irregular heartbeat

      How to Use

      Do not self-administer Bionesp 25MCG injection, your nurse or trained physician will give you the medicine. Follow all the instructions given by your doctor carefully. Continue to take the medicine till the time you see an improvement in your health conditions or as advised by your doctor. If a dose is missing, it should be taken as soon as possible.
      The injection can be taken with or without food.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking Bionesp 25MCG injection more than the prescribed dosage. Since this injection will be given by doctor or nurse, therefore it is less likely that you will receive overdose of the medicine. If there should be an occurrence of unplanned excess, look for any new signs or symptoms. Overdose of the medicine may lead to increase in platelet count.

      Use Bionesp 25MCG injection on the advice of medical practitioner. Complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      It is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustments of the medicine are needed. However, if you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

      Liver:

      The injection should be used with caution in patients with moderate and severe liver disease. Close monitoring of liver function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before the use. However, use of this medicine is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment.

      Pregnancy:

      It is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown adverse effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before taking this injection.

      Lactation:

      This medication is passed to infants through mother’s milk. Breastfed infants should be closely monitored. Since limited information is available about the safety of taking this injection, consult your doctor if you are nursing mother and stay on the safe side.

      Alcohol:

      Interaction of alcohol with this injection is unknown. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      The medicine does not cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the medicine do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      There are no known food interactions with this injection.

      Drug Interactions:

      All medicines interact differently for person to person. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you’re taking Bionesp 25MCG injection along with rifampicin, cyclosporine, thalidomide, ramipril, lenalidomide.

      This medication is an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent, prescribed for anemia due to chronic kidney disease. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells.

      How does Darbepoetin Alfa work:

      Darbepoetin alpha fires up the bone marrow to make red blood cells

      How should Darbepoetin Alfa be used:

      SCIV- The initial dose is 0.45 mcgkg body weight, as a single injection once weekly. For patients not receiving dialysis: The initial dose is 0.75 mcgkg as a single injection once every 2 weeks. It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or under the skin.

      Common side effects of Darbepoetin Alfa :

      High or low blood pressure. Swelling. Irritation where the shot is given. Belly pain. Cough.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

      What precautions should I take when taking Darbepoetin Alfa :

      If you have an allergy to darbepoetin alfa or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have very high blood pressure. If you have a kind of anemia called Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA). If you have a latex allergy, talk with your doctor.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Chest pain or pressure or a fast heartbeat. Trouble breathing. Change in strength on 1 side is greater than the other, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, or blurred eyesight. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Swelling, warmth, or pain in the leg or arm. Seizures. Very bad headache. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
