Candid Mouth Paint is a broad spectrum antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections of mouth in newborns, infants and oral thrush in adults caused by Candida albicans. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.

Ergosterol is an essential provitamin that fungi and protozoa cannot survive without. Clotrimazole targets the ergosterol present in the cell membrane of many fungi and protozoa.

Side and Adverse Effects

The following effects may or may not occur during the usage of this medicine. It is generally well tolerated when used in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Irritation
  • Contact dermatitis

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Stinging
  • Erythema
How to Use

How to Use

Do not apply more than the dose prescribed. Puncture the plug before use.
Try not to skip the dose. If you do, use it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and use it according to your normal schedule. Don’t apply two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health and may lead to severe adverse effects.

The usual dosage for adults is 10-20 drops applied on the mouth with a cotton bud 3-4 times in a day.
For infants: Use the liquid with the little finger and apply on the affected area twice in a day.

Overdosage

Avoid using more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

Use Candid Mouth Paint 25ml only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Pregnancy:

There is no harm until the 1st trimester of pregnancy through topical application, but it should be used only under the prescription of a physician.

Lactation:

Consult your doctor if you are a nursing mother because a very small amount of this drug will pass into the mothers’ milk. It is not known whether this drug can harm a breastfeeding infant or not.

Drug Interactions:

Candid Mouth Paint may interfere with other drugs. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are using any other medication like herbal products, vitamins and over the counter medicines.

Precautions
  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store in a dry ventilated place at a temperature not exceeding 30-degree centigrade.
  • Strictly for application in the mouth. Do not consume orally.
  • Do not use the medicine if the seal is broken or any particles are floating in it.
  • Do not use the Candid Mouth Paint beyond its expiry.

What is Clotrimazole for:

This medication is an antifungal, prescribed for local fungal infections. This medication prevents fungal growth on the skin.

How does Clotrimazole work:

Clotrimazole works to harm the yeast and fight the infection.

How should Clotrimazole be used:

Tab- Adult: PO- The recommended dose is 10 mgday for 7 days. Suppository- 100 mgday for 6 days. Solution- Instill 1% solution as directed by your physician. Lotioncreamsolution- Apply 2-3 timesday for 2-4 weeks. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It also comes as a cream, lotion, powder and solution to apply over the skin.

Common side effects of Clotrimazole :

Belly pain. - Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

What precautions should I take when taking Clotrimazole :

If you have an allergy to clotrimazole or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. If the yeast infection keeps coming back. Very bad belly pain. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Not able to eat. Dark urine or yellow skin or eyes. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Clotrimazole with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
