      Ceroxim 250Mg tablet is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (inflammation of lining of the bronchial tubes), pneumonia (lung infection), pharyngitis or tonsilitis (infections of the throat and airways leading to lungs), Lyme disease (infection spread to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks that carries the bacteria) and skin structure, tissues, bones, joint infections caused by susceptible strains of the bacteria. It is also effective in treating infections of urinary tract, ear, sinus and some sexually transmitted diseases. It also prevents infections during surgery. This medicine is not advised for treating a common cold, flu or other viral infections since it is not effective in treating these infections. It is not recommended for use in patients below 12 years of age. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Ceroxim 250Mg tablet works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial protective covering or cell wall which is fundamental for the survival of the bacteria. By doing so, the medicine kills the infection causing bacteria and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.

      How to Use

      Take Ceroxim 250Mg tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      This medicine should be taken with food. Avoid taking antacids within one hour or two hours after you take the tablet as few antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb the medicine.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun. Stopping the medication too early can allow the growth of the bacteria to begin, which can lead to an infection relapse.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage of Ceroxim 250Mg tablet, symptoms vary but you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      Liver:

      This tablet should be used with caution in patients with moderate and severe liver disease. Dose adjustments may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you develop signs of jaundice like yellowing of skin and eyes, itching and clay-colored stools while taking this tablet

      Pregnancy:

      This tablet is considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This medicine is considered safe to use in lactating women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Alcohol:

      Interaction of alcohol with this medicine is unknown. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

      Driving:

      This medicine may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Intake of milk, cheese, yoghurt or any dairy products should be avoided as it may decrease the absorption of the tablet.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Ceroxim 250Mg tablet with medicines used in the treatment of gout (allopurinol, probenecid), furosemide, ethinyl estradiol, anticoagulants (warfarin), antibiotics like tetracycline, methotrexate, drugs inducing hepatic enzymes (rifampicin), medicines for epilepsy (phenytoin, carbamazepine), methoxyflurane (concurrent use may result in renal toxicity).

      What is Cefuroxime for:

      This medication is a semi synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for different types of infections such as lung, ear, throat, urinary tract and skin.

      How does Cefuroxime work:

      Cefuroxime works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

      How should Cefuroxime be used:

      Adult- Po- The recommended dose range is 125mg to 3gmsday, in divided doses. IVIM- Surgical prophylaxis- 1.5 g IV per-op, then 750 mg IM 8 hourly for up to 24-48 hours. It comes as a tablet, syrup and suspension to take by mouth, with food. It also comes as solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or large muscle.

      Common side effects of Cefuroxime :

      Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. - For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Cefuroxime :

      Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions (rash, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes) to similar antibiotics such as cefalexin, cefaclor, cefixime, ceftibuten or any other cephalosporin antibiotics. - Alert your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, for example, amoxicillin, ampicillin and cloxacillin. Penicillins are related to cephalosporins and if you are allergic to one, you may be allergic to the other too.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. - Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. - Very upset stomach or throwing up. - Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. - Any bruising or bleeding. - Any rash. - Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Cefuroxime with other medicines:

      Do not take Cefuroxime together with antacids because antacids could reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotic. Antacids are not likely to relieve the stomach discomfort that Cefuroxime may cause. If you must take antacids, take between meals at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after you have taken Cefuroxime. Alert your doctor if you are taking warfarin or probenecid. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
