      Ciplox OZ Tablet is an antibiotic which is used to treat postexposure prophylaxis of inhalation anthrax, bone and joint infections, lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, upper respiratory tract infections, malignant otitis externa, prostatitis, pyelonephritis, complicated cystitis, cystic fibrosis, uncomplicated cystitis, typhoid, urinary tract infections, amoebiasis, amoebic dysentry, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, severe amoebic dysentery, amoebic liver abscess. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.



      The active ingredients of Ciplox OZ Tablet are Ciprofloxacin 500mg and Ornidazole 500mg.

      Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone anti-infective agent that acts by inhibiting the essentials of bacteria such as DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination.

      Ornidazole is an antibiotic that acts by collapsing the helical structure of DNA, inhibiting protein synthesis, and thus causing cell death in bacteria. This leads to cell death, reduction in total count and prevention in furthe multiplication.

      Contraindications and Caution

      Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before taking the Ciplox OZ Tablet:

      • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Ciplox OZ Tablet such as Ciprofloxacin and Ornidazole or any other nitroimidazole derivatives
      • Myasthenia gravis
      • Aortic aneurysm history
      • Aortic aneurysm risk
      • Peripheral atherosclerotic vascular disease
      • HTN
      • Marfan syndrome
      • Ehlers-danlos syndrome
      • Caution:

      How to Use

      How to Use

      Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
      Swallow the tablet immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or chew the Ciplox OZ Tablet.
      Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which may be dangerous to your health.
      You can take Ciplox OZ Tablet either during or after food.
      Take the medicine at the prescribed time and dosage.


      Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

      • Tremor
      • Seizures
      • Acute renal and hepatic impairment
      • Abdominal discomfort
      • Confusion
      • Crystalluria

      Take Ciplox OZ Tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:


      Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.


      Caution advised among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.


      Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before taking this medicine because safety during pregnancy is unknown.


      Do not take this medicine if you are a nursing mother. However, consider using the medicine only if suggested by a health care professional.


      Diary products or calcium-containing beverages may reduce the absorption of medicine (Ciprofloxacin) by the oral route.

      Drug Interactions:

      Caution always advised when used with other medications. Therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medicines during the treatment. If you use any.

      • Keep the medicine from out of sight and reach of children.
      • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
      • Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.

      What is Ciprofloxacin for:

      This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract, skin, bones and joint infections. It is also used to treat gastrointestinal infections.

      How does Ciprofloxacin work:

      Ciprofloxacin works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

      How should Ciprofloxacin be used:

      Adult- Oral- The recommended dose range is 250 to 750mgday in divided doses. It comes as a tablet, capsule and syrup to take by mouth. It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein. It also comes as eyeear drops to instill over the affected eyes.

      Common side effects of Ciprofloxacin :

      Belly pain. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. Tendons may rarely get irritated and tear. Unsafe allergic effects may rarely happen.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Ciprofloxacin :

      Do not take Ciprofloxacin if you have a history of allergic reactions (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to similar antibiotics such as levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin, nalidixic acid, norfloxacin or ofloxacin. - Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. - Do not take Ciprofloxacin if you are pregnant. - Do not give Ciprofloxacin to children or teenagers unless instructed by the doctor.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. A fast heartbeat. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. Pain in back of the ankle. • Joint pain or swelling. Very bad muscle pain or weakness. Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet. Seizures. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Ciprofloxacin with other medicines:

      Do not take Ciprofloxacin at the same time as antacids or supplements that contain aluminium, calcium, iron, magnesium or zinc. These reduce the effectiveness of Ciprofloxacin. If you must take antacids or multivitamins containing aluminium, calcium, iron, magnesium or zinc, take Ciprofloxacin at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after such products. Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - warfarin (a blood-thinning medicine). - any diabetes medicine. - theophylline (an asthma medicine). - amiodarone, sotalol (heart medicines). - psychiatric medicines. - phenytoin (an epilepsy medicine). - sucralfate, cisapride (gastric medicines). - other medicines such as didanosine, methotrexate, ciclosporin, ropinirole, tizanidine. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

      Are there any food restrictions

      Do not take Ciprofloxacin with dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt or ice-cream. Dairy products reduce the effectiveness of Ciprofloxacin when taken at the same time. Take Ciprofloxacin at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after you have taken any dairy products. - Avoid caffeine-containing beverages such as coffee, tea and certain soft drinks. - Avoid alcohol.

      How do I store Ciprofloxacin :

      Store ciprofloxacin in the container it came in at room temperature. Keep it out of the reach of children.
