Clonate F 20GM cream is used to treat various types of bacterial skin infections. This cream is used in treating inflammation of skin, infections of skin surrounding the fingernails or toenails, infections of bearded skin mostly caused by Staphylococcus species. It is also used for the topical treatment of dermatitis and psoriasis, characterised by symptoms such as red, scaly, itchy patches of skin. This medicine inhibits the growth of microorganisms that cause infections and reduce swelling, redness and itchiness due to infections. However, the uses of this cream mentioned here are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Clonate F 20GM cream are Clobetasol propionate (0.05% W/V) and Fusidic Acid (2% W/W)

Clobetasol propionate is a steroid which works by blocking the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that cause pain and make skin red, swollen and itchy. Fusidic acid is an antibiotic that involves in inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomes, eventually killing the bacteria by damaging DNA.

Before application wash with warm water and dry the affected area. Apply a thin layer of this cream 2 times daily or as advised by your doctor and gently rub. Do not cover the application area with bandages unless instructed by your doctor. Avoid getting this cream in contact with open wounds, eyes, mouth and nose.

Overdosage

Avoid using Clonate F 20GM cream more than required. An overdose is extremely unlikely with this cream since it is only for external use. Internal consumption of medicine leads to harmful side effects. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after using the medicine, promptly seek medical attention. How should Clobetasol Propionate be used:

Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area twice daily, rub gently. It comes as a cream or ointment to apply over the affected area.

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant while being treated with Clobetasol. Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding. Do not apply Clobetasol on the nipples if you are breastfeeding. Do not apply on skin that is broken or infected. Do not apply on skin that is discharging fluid or pus. Do not apply on your face, groin or armpits unless instructed by your doctor.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Feeling very tired, weak, or touchy; trembling; having a fast heartbeat, confusion, sweating, or dizziness if you missed a dose or recently stopped this drug. Very bad skin irritation. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
