Uses and Benefits

Dabifib 110MG capsule is an anticoagulant used to reduce the risk of stroke and prevent the blood from clotting. This medicine is prescribed in deep vein thrombosis (blood clot formation in legs), pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lung), prophylaxis for myocardial infarction (prevent clot formation in vessels that supply blood to heart) and in prevention of thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) as well as patients who have undergone a hip replacement surgery. It is a perfect blood thinner and keeps the blood flowing smoothly. Close monitoring of the kidney and liver function is necessary while receiving this medicine due to increase in the risk of bleeding. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age. However, the uses mentioned are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Dabigatran etexilate is an anticoagulant that works by preventing the formation of harmful blood clots by stopping the action of clotting factors.

Contraindications and Caution

Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their healthcare professionals before taking Dabifib 110MG capsule:

• Hypersensitivity to ingredients used in the capsule
• Central nervous system bleeding
• Haemostatic impairment
• Severe renal impairment

• Caution:
• Valvular heart disease
• Active bleeding disorder
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• History of thrombosis
• Surgeries
• Hepatic and moderate renal impairment
• Children and elderly
• Pregnancy and lactation

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Dabifib 110MG capsule. When taken in the recommended dosage guidelines, the medicine is well tolerated. You may experience one or more of the following common side effects:

• Bleeding
• Abdominal pain
• Indigestion
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Black or tarry stools
• Belching
• Vomiting

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

• Coughing of blood
• Dizziness
• Loss of consciousness
• Fast or irregular heartbeat
• Increased liver enzymes

How to Use

Take Dabifib 110MG capsule as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the capsule.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
This capsule can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. The capsule is usually taken not more than once a day. Take the capsule at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Warnings and Precautions

Take Dabifib 110MG capsule only on the advice of medical practitioner. Dosage adjustments or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Extreme caution is advised among patients with renal problems. Dose adjustments may be needed. Potassium and creatinine levels should be monitored. If you have any kidney disease, it is recommended to you consult your doctor before taking this medicine. However, this medicine is not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.

Liver:

Caution is advised among patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the capsule may be needed on the basis of clinical condition of the patient. We recommend you to consult your doctor before the consuming this medicine.

Pregnancy:

It is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with this medicine is not recommended as it increases side effects such as difficulty in hypotension, concentration, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

The capsule may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Vitamin K rich foods (leafy vegetables) should be avoided.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Dabifib 110MG capsule with enoxaparin, itraconazole, quinidine, warfarin, clopidogrel, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, dextran, aspirin, NSAIDs, bromfenac, heparin, verapamil, rifampicin, clarithromycin, posaconazole, phenytoin, pantoprazole.

Category X: Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities and/or there is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience, and the risks involved in use of the drug in pregnant women clearly outweigh potential benefits.
