      Deriphyllin Tablet is used to treat asthma, acute bronchospasm, and chronic bronchospasm. It helps relieve one from wheezing, emphysema and other respiratory problems. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

      The active ingredients of Deriphyllin Tablet are Etofylline 77mg and Theophylline 23mg.

      Etofylline is used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

      Theophylline is used as a bronchodilator which helps by relaxing the muscles in chest, lungs and reduces the sensitivity in the lungs to allergens and other sources of bronchospasm.

      Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before taking the Deriphyllin Tablet:

      • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Deriphyllin Tablet such as Etofylline and Theophylline

      • Pulmonary edema, acute

      Side and Adverse Effects

      The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Deriphyllin Tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

      • Nausea
      • Vomiting
      • Headache
      • Insomnia
      • Diarrhea
      • Irritability
      • Restlessness
      • Tremor
      • Diuresis, transient

      Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

      • Seizures
      • Arrhythmias
      • Hypotension
      • Shock
      • Exfoliative dermatitis
      How to Use

      How to Use

      Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
      Swallow the Deriphyllin Tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip.
      Do not break/crush/ chew the tablet.

      Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.

      Take the Deriphyllin Tablet with or without food. May be taken with meals to reduce GI discomfort. Take the Deriphyllin Tablet at the prescribed time and dosage.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience any one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

      • Tachycardia
      • Fever
      • Anorexia
      • Nausea
      • Occasional vomiting
      • Diarrhea
      • Insomnia
      • Irritability
      • Restlessness
      • Agitated maniacal behavior
      • Extreme thirst
      • Tinnitus
      • Palpitations
      • Arrhythmias
      • Delirium
      • Muscle twitching
      • Severe dehydration
      • Albuminuria
      • Emesis of coffee ground material
      • Hyperthermia
      • Profuse Diaphoresis
      • Seizures result in death

      Take Deriphylline R Tablet 300mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

      Liver:

      Caution advised among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this Deriphyllin Tablet.

      Pregnancy:

      Do not take the medicine if you are pregnant or likely to get pregnant because safety during pregnancy is unknown. However, consider taking the tablet if suggested by a healthcare professional.

      Lactation:

      Inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother because safety during lactation is not yet established.

      Alcohol:

      Increased renal clearance with alcohol.

      Food:

      Decreased absorption of drug with food.

      Drug Interactions:

      Caution always advised when used with other medication. Therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medication which you start or stop.

      What is Theophylline for:

      This medication is a bronchodilator, prescribed for asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases. It works by relaxing the muscle around the airways in the lungs.

      How does Theophylline work:

      Theophylline calms lung muscles. It protects the airways from irritants. It makes the diaphragm stronger.

      How should Theophylline be used:

      It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth with or without food. The recommended dose is 400 or 600 mg once a day in the morning or evening.

      Common side effects of Theophylline :

      Nervous and excitable. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Theophylline :

      If you have an allergy to theophylline or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. A fast heartbeat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Very nervous and excitable. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Peak flow measurement low. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Theophylline with other medicines:

      Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

      Are there any food restrictions

      Avoid Alcohol. Avoid taking large amount of caffeinated beverages. It may affect blood sugar level; monitor sugar level regularly while taking this medication.

      How do I store Theophylline :

      Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
