      Dexona Tablet 0.5mg is an anti-inflammatory drug used to treat allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, and breathing disorders. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.

      Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that aids in inhibiting the release of chemicals from the cells that are responsible for causing allergic responses in the body.

      Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Dexona Tablet 0.5mg:

      • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Dexona Tablet 0.5mg such as Dexamethasone
      • Systemic fungal infection
      • Cerebral malaria
      • Avoid abrupt withdrawal (high or long term use)

      The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this Dexona Tablet 0.5mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

      How to Use

      How to Use

      Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
      Swallow the tablet whole immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break/chew/cut it instead.
      Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which may be dangerous to your health.
      Dexona Tablet should be taken with food.
      Take the Dexona Tablet 0.5mg at the prescribed time and dosage.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

      • Anaphylactic reactions
      • Hypersensitivity reactions

      Take Dexona Tablet 0.5mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

      Pregnancy:

      Safety during pregnancy is unknown. Therefore, if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, inform your doctor before consuming this tablet.

      Lactation:

      Safety during lactation is not known. Therefore, if you are a nursing mother, inform your doctor before consuming this tablet.

      Drug Interactions:

      Caution always advised when used with other drugs. Therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medication(s) during the treatment (if any).

      • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
      • Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
      • Do not use Dexona Tablet 0.5mg beyond its expiry.

      What is Dexamethasone for:

      This medication is a corticosteroid, prescribed for certain conditions associated with decreased adrenal gland function.

      How does Dexamethasone work:

      Dexamethasone replaces a chemical made in the body. It stops or lowers irritation and swelling. It lowers or stops the bodys reaction to the allergen. It lowers the bodys harmful response to diseases of the immune system.

      How should Dexamethasone be used:

      PO- The recommended dose range is 0.5 to 40mgday. It comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth, with food. It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or muscle.

      Common side effects of Dexamethasone :

      High blood sugar may cause diabetes while on this drug. This most often goes back to normal when this drug is stopped. Chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu. Belly pain. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Mood changes. Weight gain. Change in body fat. Weak bones with long-term use. Muscle weakness. Skin changes (pimples, stretch marks, slow healing, hair growth). Cataracts or glaucoma with long-term use. For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Dexamethasone :

      If you have an allergy to dexamethasone or any other part of this drug. - Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Malaria infection in the brain or bad yeast infection.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Feeling very tired, weak, or touchy; trembling; having a fast heartbeat, confusion, sweating, or dizziness if you missed a dose or recently stopped this drug. Trouble breathing. Very upset stomach or throwing up. A big weight gain. Sudden change in eyesight, eye pain, or irritation. If you have been exposed to chickenpox and have not had chickenpox or had a chickenpox vaccine. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Dexamethasone with other medicines:

      Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
