Doverin M tablet is a combination medicine which relaxes the muscles and gives effective relief from pain, spasm and twitches of the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, heart and other organs associated with various diseases as well as bloating, cramps and discomfort in the abdomen. It is used to relax the intestinal muscles and allows the free passage for bowels. It is also used in relieving pain caused due to headache, menstrual periods, colicky pain (sharp and localized pain), cervical spasm during labour and pain caused by the kidney and ureter (tube that connects the kidney to the bladder) stones. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Doverin M tablet are Drotaverine (80Mg) and Mefenamic acid (250Mg)

Drotaverine is an anti-spasmodic medicine which relieves contractions (spasms) and pain associated with smooth muscles in the abdomen. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that stops the release of certain chemicals called prostaglandins, which cause pain and inflammation in the body.

Doverin M tablet is usually well tolerated when used in the prescribed dosage guidelines. Most side effects are temporary and usually subsides on their own. However, consult your doctor if they persist for a longer duration. You may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Swelling of face, lips, eye lids, hands and feet
  • Vertigo
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling thirsty
  • Heartburn
  • Stomach pain
  • Dizziness
  • Decreased urine output

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Increased liver enzymes

How to Use

How to Use

Take Doverin M tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
The tablet should be taken with food. The tablet is usually taken not more than twice a day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Doverin M tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Lethargy
  • Epigastric pain
  • Acute renal failure
  • Respiratory depression

Use this tablet on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Doverin M tablet may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe kidney diseases.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the medicine may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine. Any symptoms such as nausea, fever, dark urine etc should be reported to your doctor immediately. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe liver diseases.

Pregnancy:

It is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

This medicine is not considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since limited information is available about the safety of taking this tablet, consult your doctor if you are nursing mother and stay on the safe side.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with this medicine is not recommended as it increases side effects of the medicine such as gastrointestinal bleeding, dizziness, drowsiness etc. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the medicine, report to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

There are no known food interactions with this medicine.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Doverin M tablet with levodopa, diclofenac, diazepam, ciclosporin, aspirin, warfarin, corticosteroids, tacrolimus, digoxin, methotrexate, furosemide, lithium, glimepiride, atropine.

Precautions
  • Do not use this tablet post the expiry date
