      Doxt SL capsule is an antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, blood, throat, skin, stomach, bones, lungs, urinary tract, joints and intestine. It can also be used in combination with other antibiotics to treat certain infections caused by sexually transmitted organisms like Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The medicine kills or stops the infection causing bacteria from growing. This capsule is prescribed for the treatment of cholera, brucellosis, mycoplasma pneumonia, malaria prophylaxis, rickettsia infection. The capsule contains probiotic bacteria that helps in restoring useful bacteria, improve digestion and enhance overall health. However, the uses of this capsule mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Doxycycline, a bacteriostatic against broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions, thereby stopping bacterial growth and prevents spreading of infection. Lactobacillus is a live microorganism that restores the balance of good bacteria in the intestine that may get upset with antibiotic use or due to intestinal infections.

      Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their healthcare professionals before using Doxt SL capsule.

      • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the capsule formulation
      • Hypersensitivity to other tetracyclines
      • Pregnancy and lactation

      Caution:

      • Coexisting venereal disease
      • Myasthenia gravis
      • Gastrointestinal disorders
      • Hepatic impairment
      • Renal impairment

      Side and Adverse Effects

      The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this capsule. Doxt SL capsule is usually well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common side effects include:

      • Nausea
      • Discoloration of teeth
      • Vomiting
      • Stomach upset
      • Loss of appetite
      • Skin rash or itching
      • Mild diarrhea
      • Darkened skin color
      • Vaginal itching or discharge

      Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

      • Severe skin reactions
      • Unusual tiredness
      • Yellowing of skin or eyes
      • Blurred vision
      • Chest pain
      • Increased pressure inside the skull

      How to Use

      How to Use

      Use Doxt SL capsule as instructed by your health care professional. Do not use this medicine for durations shorter or longer than suggested by your doctor. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose, if you do, take Doxt SL capsule as soon as remember, but its almost time for your next dose, skip and take it according to your normal schedule.
      Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount prescribed, even though the symptoms disappear after Doxycycline has begun. Stopping the medication too early can allow the growth of the bacteria to begin, which can lead to an infection relapse. Follow all dosing instructions indicated on the label.
      Doxt SL capsule may be taken with or without food. If gastric irritation occurs, take the capsule with food. Avoid taking antacids within one hour or two hours after you take the capsule as few antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb doxycycline.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking Doxt SL capsule more than the prescribed dosage. In case of overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms vary but you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Dizziness
      • Little or no urination
      • Tachycardia
      • Low white blood cells count
      • Stevens-Johnson syndrome
      • Watery or bloody stools

      Use Doxt SL capsule on the advice of medical practitioner. Complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      Caution is advised among people with renal problems. Dose adjustments of the capsule may be needed. Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is recommended while taking Doxt SL capsule. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

      Liver:

      This medicine should be used with caution in patients with moderate and severe liver disease. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before the use. Inform your doctor if you develop signs of jaundice like yellowing of skin and eyes, itching and clay-colored stools while taking this capsule.

      Pregnancy:

      Doxt SL capsule is not considered safe to use in pregnant women as there is definite risk to the developing baby. However, in certain life-threatening cases where the benefits outweigh the potential risks, your doctor may rarely prescribe this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This medicine is not considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. This medication is passed to infants through mother’s milk. Breastfed infants should be closely monitored.

      Alcohol:

      Do not take Doxt SL capsule along with alcohol beverages as it may increase concentration of the medicine and this may cause severe adverse effects. Constantly consuming alcohol can negatively impact the absorption of the drug. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

      Driving:

      Doxt SL capsule may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, so do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Intake of milk, cheese, yoghurt or any dairy products should be avoided as it may decrease the absorption of the capsule.

      Drug Interactions:

      Alert your doctor if you’re taking any of the below medicines along with Doxt SL capsule:
      Anti-coagulants: Warfarin
      Antacids containing aluminium, calcium and magnesium
      Bismuth preparations
      Cyclosporin
      Medicines for epilepsy: phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital
      Drugs inducing hepatic enzymes: Rifampicin
      Methoxyflurane: concurrent use may result in renal toxicity
      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

      What is Doxycycline for:

      This medication is broad-spectrum antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such as pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections, Lyme’s disease, infections of skin, genital, and urinary systems and anthrax.

      How does Doxycycline work:

      Doxycycline works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

      How should Doxycycline be used:

      Adults: The usual dose is 200 mg on the first day of treatment in divided doses, followed by a maintenance dose of 100 mgday. Child: The recommended dosage is 2 mglb of body weight divided into two doses. It comes as a capsule and suspension to take by mouth, with food.

      Common side effects of Doxycycline :

      Belly pain. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. Not hungry. For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge. Side effects from Periostat® are less.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Doxycycline :

      If you have an allergy to doxycycline or any other part of this drug. If you have a sulfite allergy, talk with your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have liver disease. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad headache. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Doxycycline with other medicines:

      Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
