Eritel CH 40MG tablet is a combination medicine used to treat hypertension (elevation of blood pressure caused by genetic or environmental factors), prevents angina (heart related chest pain), irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmia) and other heart complications. It also aids in prevention of migraines, heart attacks and stroke. The medicine works by relaxing the blood vessels and improves blood flow and oxygen in the body, thereby reducing the risk of getting chest pain. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood pressure for best possible effects. It is not recommended as initial therapy for patients with high blood pressure. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Eritel CH 40MG tablet are Telmisartan (40MG) and Chlorthalidone (12.5MG)

Telmisartan, angiotensin II receptor blocker works by normalizing the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and improves blood flow and oxygen in the body, thereby reducing the risk of getting chest pain. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic which removes excess sodium and water from the body through urine. The combination is thus effective in reducing blood pressure.

How to Use

How to Use

Take Eritel CH 40MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose, if you do, take the tablet as soon as you remember, but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the previous dose and take it according to your normal scheduled. Do not swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to health.
This tablet should be taken with food. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine to overcome dry mouth, muscle weakness and extreme thirst. Take the tablet at the same time as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. It is best to avoid taking this medicine within four hours of going to bed as it contains a diuretic and will make you urinate more.
Do not use the medicine for durations shorter or longer than the suggested by your doctor. Continue to use this medicine until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Eritel CH 40MG tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Severe hypotension
  • Electrolyte depletion
  • Dehydration
  • Excessive peripheral vasodilation

Kidney:

Extreme caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the taking this medicine. However, this medicine is not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with hepatic problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed. Regular monitoring of liver function tests is recommended while taking this tablet. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, this medicine is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Pregnancy:

Eritel CH 40MG might be risky to use during pregnancy as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. However, in some life-threatening situations, doctors may rarely prescribe if the benefits are more than the potential risks. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Driving:

The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Avoid grape fruit juice as it may alter serum levels.

Drug Interactions:

Always inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Eritel CH 40MG tablet with aliskiren, lithium, furosemide, itraconazole, insulin, captopril, diltiazem, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, quinidine, ciclosporin, rifampicin, dexamethasone, carbamazepine.

How should Chlorthalidone be used:

It comes as a tablet, usually taken once a day or once in two days. It is best to take the medicine in the morning to avoid going to bathroom at night. Take it exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of it. It controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Continue to take it even if you feel well unless instructed by your doctor.

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low potassium. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Not able to pass urine. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
