Clobetasol propionate is a steroid which works by blocking the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make skin red, swollen and itchy. Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline is an antibiotic that kills bacteria and fungus by damaging the DNA.
Ketoconazole and Tolnaftate are anti-fungal drugs that changes the permeability of the cell wall of the fungal cells and prevents their growth. It binds to the phospholipids of the membrane and inhibits the fungal CYP450 activity, thereby decreasing ergosterol biosynthesis that are essential for the development of the cell membrane. This results in the death of cells due to the loss of intracellular sections.
Neomycin is an antibiotic that stops the growth of bacteria on the skin by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out its vital functions.
