FM Active tablet is a combination of two medicines used in the treatment of depression. This tablet aims to relieve depression by increasing the level of chemical messengers in the brain that have a calming effect on the brain and relaxes the nerves. It helps in maintaining the balance of certain chemicals in brain that affect mood and behaviour, thereby improving anxiety, tension and helps you sleep better. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of FM Active tablet are Flupenthixol (0.5mg) and Melitracen (10Mg).

How to Use

How to Use

Take FM Active tablet as instructed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine for durations shorter or longer than suggested by your doctor. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take FM Active tablet as soon as remember, however if its almost time for your next dose, skip the previous dose and take it according to your normal scheduled time.

Take this tablet in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor as it has a very high potential of becoming habit-forming. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though if you start to feel better.

FM Active tablet should be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Take the tablet at the same time each day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of FM Active tab, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Myalgia
  • Micturition disorder
  • Urinary retention
  • Insomnia

Use this tablet only on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the FM Active tablet may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Extreme caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of FM Active tablet.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the FM Active tab may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with moderate to severe liver diseases.

Pregnancy:

FM Active tablet might be risky to use during pregnancy. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is likely unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with FM Active tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding, dizziness, light headedness. If found any symptoms of extreme drowsiness, vomiting, confusion, report to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

FM Active tablet decreases alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, confusion, so do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

FM Active tablet when taken with tyramine rich foods such as cheese, milk, meat extracts, bananas, avocados, chicken liver and excess chocolate can result in sudden and dangerous increase in blood pressure.

Alert your doctor if you are taking FM Active tab with any of the below medicines:

  • Drowsiness causing anti-histamines – Diphenhydramine
  • Muscle relaxants – Cyclobenzaprine
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
  • Phenobarbital
  • Metoclopramide
  • Anticoagulants – warfarin
  • Anti-anxiety agents – diazepam
  • Narcotic pain relievers – Codeine

Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Nervous and excitable. Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative. Dry mouth. Good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. See a dentist often. Weight gain. Change in sex ability. This most often goes back to normal.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Flupenthixol :

If you have an allergy to flupentixol or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Brain problem, drink too much alcohol, kidney disease, liver disease, or very bad heart disease. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Big change in balance. Shakiness, trouble moving around, or stiffness. Very nervous and excitable. Not able to pass urine. Feeling very tired or weak. For women, if you get pregnant while taking this drug. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
