      Folitrax 7.5MG tablet is used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat life-threatening conditions like severe rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disease that affects the smaller joints in the body characterized by loss of joint function, progressive bone destruction and damage) and psoriatic arthritis, a form of arthritis associated with psoriasis (characterized by red inflamed skin, often covered by scales) and certain types of cancers that occur in the woman’s uterus. This medicine slows down the progression of the disease and provides relief from pain, swelling and redness. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Methotrexate acts on cells involving in immune function that are responsible for the swelling and joint damage. It also blocks the action of specific substances (cyclooxygenase-2) in the body that are responsible for causing inflammation (pain, redness, swelling) and other associated complications. In psoriasis, this medicine works by slowing down the rapid growth of skin cells by interfering with the DNA synthesis.

      • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the tablet
      • Pre-existing blood disorders

      • Severe renal or hepatic impairment

      How to Use

      Take Folitrax 7.5MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet should be taken on an empty stomach. To reduce gastrointestinal discomfort, you could take it with meals. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Folitrax 7.5MG tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      Use this tablet on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Folitrax 7.5MG tablet may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this tablet.

      Liver:

      Extreme caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, we recommend you to consult your doctor before the consuming this medicine. However, this tablet is not recommended in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment.

      Pregnancy:

      This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. Please consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This medicine is not considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with this tablet is not recommended as it increases the risk of liver damage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the medicine, report to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      This tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the medicine do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Milk rich products should be avoided.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Folitrax 7.5MG tablet with live vaccines, cholestyramine, rifampicin, ciprofloxacin, omeprazole, cisplatin, antibiotics, folic acid, chloramphenicol, retinoids, azathioprine, warfarin, NSAIDs, teriflunomide, chlorpropamide.

      This medication is an antimetabolite, curative in choriocarcinoma (cancer of the tissue that normally would develop into placenta). It is also used in other cancers like blood, breast and lung cancers.

      How does Methotrexate work:

      It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provide into a large muscle.

      Common side effects of Methotrexate :

      Anemia, low white blood cell count, and low platelet count. Chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Not hungry. Loose stools (diarrhea). Mouth irritation or sores. Using a soft toothbrush or cotton swabs and rinsing the mouth may help. Do not use mouth rinses that have alcohol in them. Sore throat. Headache. Hair loss. Hair most often grows back when this drug is stopped. Kidney failure may rarely happen. Harm to the liver may rarely happen. Harm to the lungs may rarely happen. Other kinds of cancer may rarely happen later in life.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Methotrexate :

      If you have an allergy to methotrexate or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you are breast-feeding.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Chest pain or pressure. Trouble breathing. Cough that does not go away. Pinpoint red spots on your skin. Very bad belly pain. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea). Not able to eat. Any bruising or bleeding. Dark urine or yellow skin or eyes. Feeling very tired or weak. For women, if you get pregnant while taking this drug. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Methotrexate with other medicines:

      Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
