This medication is a halogenated hydrocarbon, acts as a general anesthetic during surgery either alone or combined with other medications. It is given by inhalation. This helps to produce more effective anesthesia in some patients.
Sevoflurane lowers the feeling of pain and how one reacts to pain.
It comes as a inhaler, to inhale by mouth. Inhalation Via a calibrated vaporiser: Induction: Up to 5% vv w oxygen or a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. Maintenance: 0.5-3% vv w or wo nitrous oxide.
Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Low blood pressure. Upset stomach or throwing up. Good mouth care may help. Ask the doctor for a drug to help. Shivering. Cough.
Generally its given on needed basis.
If you have an allergy to sevoflurane or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you or a family member have had malignant hyperthermia after getting an anesthetic. Signs of this health problem include a very high fever, a fast heartbeat, muscle stiffness, and trouble breathing.
Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Trouble breathing. Change in thinking clearly and with logic. High fever. A fast heartbeat. Muscle stiffness. Poor pain control. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
It may make the patient drowsy, tired, or weak for a while after they receive it. Do not drive a car, or operate moving machinery, while taking this medication.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
