Fungirex 30GM gel is used to treat various types of skin infections caused by fungi. This gel is used in treating athlete’s foot (itchy white patches between the toes), jock itch (red, itchy and ring shape around the groins), infections of skin surrounding the fingernails or toenails, infections of bearded skin, topical treatment of tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea pedis and in the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis, seborrheic dermatitis. This medicine inhibits the growth of fungi that cause infections and reduce swelling, redness and itchiness due to infections. The active ingredient of Fungirex 30GM gel is Miconazole 2% W/W
Miconazole is an anti-fungal drug that changes the permeability of the cell wall of the fungal cells and prevents their growth. It binds to the phospholipids of the membrane and inhibits the fungal CYP450 activity, thereby decreasing ergosterol biosynthesis that are essential for the development of the cell membrane. This results in the death of cells due to the loss of intracellular sections.
