Gluxit 10mg is an oral anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is also used to treat heart failure by increasing the removal of sodium by your kidneys. It is used in certain people to lower the risk of death and having go to the hospital because of heart failure. Gluxit 10mg medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. However, there may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

Gluxit 10mg tablet works by blocking sodium glucose co-transporter protein in the kidneys which helps in eliminating blood glucose through urine thereby controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetic patients.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Gluxit 10mg Tablet:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in Dapagliflozin.
  • Severe renal impairment, patients on dialysis or end stage renal disease

  • Loss of too much body water (dehydration)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Heart failure
  • Kidney failure (dialysis).
  • This medicine is not for people with Type 1 Diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Gluxit 10mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Fungal infections in the vagina or penis
  • Ketoacidoses (increased ketones in blood or urine)
  • Increased fats in blood (bad cholesterol or Low-Density Lipoprotein cholesterol)
  • Low blood sugar
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Changes in urination, including urgent need to urinate more often, in larger amounts or at night
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Urosepsis and Pyelonephritis

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Bladded Cancer

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break/crush/chew the tablet.

Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take it at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.

For best results, take the tablet with or without food daily at the same time. This medicine is not recommended for children, adolescents and for older adults (over 75 of age).

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. There were no reports of overdose during the clinical development program for Gluxit 10mg. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

  • Vision impairment
  • Trouble in breathing

Kidney:

Among people with renal problems, caution is recommended. Dapagliflozin increases serum creatinine and decreases estimated Glomerular filtration rate. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

It is safe among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant because safety during pregnancy is not yet established. Consult your doctor about the best way to control your blood sugar.

Lactation:

There is no information regarding the presence of dapagliflozin in human milk, or the breastfed infant, or the effects on milk production. However, inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother as it is still unknown if it causes harm to the foetus or not.

Alcohol:

Do not take this medicine along with alcohol.

Driving:

Gluxit 10mg tablet does not interfere with the ability to drive.

Diuretics and Beta-blocker medications (such as metoprolol, propranolol, glaucoma eye drops such as timolol) may prevent the fast/pounding heartbeat you would usually feel when your blood sugar falls too low (hypoglycemia).
