Glynase XL 10MG tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medication used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps in getting rid of extra glucose from the body through urine. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar level helps in preventing kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems and loss of limbs is lowered. However, the uses of the tablet mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

How to Use

How to Use

Take Glynase XL 10MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Glynase XL 10MG tablet should be taken with food, immediately or during breakfast or the first main meal of the day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. The medicine is usually taken once a day.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested. This medicine is not recommended for children below 18 years of age.

Overdosage

Pregnancy:

Lactation:

There is no information regarding the presence of this medicine in human milk, or the breastfed infant, or the effects on milk production. However, inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother as it is still unknown if it causes harm to the foetus or not.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with this tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects of the tablet. If found any symptoms of extreme drowsiness, vomiting, confusion, report to your doctor immediately.

What is Glipizide for:

This medication is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent, prescribed for type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood), particularly in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet alone.

How does Glipizide work:

It increases the amount of insulin secretion and thus regulates the sugar level in the blood.

How should Glipizide be used:

Take as you have been told, even if you are feeling better. This drug may be used alone or with other high blood sugar (diabetes) drugs. Follow the diet and workout plan that your doctor told you about. Fast release: - Take 30 minutes before the first meal of the day. Long-acting products: - Take with the first meal of the day. Swallow whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.

Common side effects of Glipizide :

Long-acting tablet shell in the stool. Low blood sugar. Signs include anger, shaking, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or sweating. Keep hard candies, glucose tablets, liquid glucose, or juice on hand for low blood sugar. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Weight gain.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

If you have an allergy to glipizide or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have a sulfa (sulfonamide) allergy, talk with your doctor. Long-acting products: If you have a narrowing of the GI (gastrointestinal) tract or a bowel block. If you have any of these health problems: Acidic blood problem or type 1 diabetes. If you are breast-feeding.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very low blood sugar or very high blood sugar. Very bad belly pain. Dark urine or yellow skin or eyes. Not able to eat. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
