Halobetasol propionate is a steroid which works by blocking the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that cause pain and make red, swollen and itchy. Salicylic acid acts a keratolytic agent and achieves a slow, painless destruction of warts (thickened upper layer of skin) and shedding the scales which are bound by it. It breaks keratin lumps, removes dead cells and softens the skin.
