Lenteclin LB capsule is an effective tetracycline antibiotic used to treat many different bacterial infections, such as acne, infections in urinary tract, lungs, intestine, eyes, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, periodontitis, brucellosis, mycoplasma pneumonia. It is also in the treatment of anthrax and as prophylaxis for malaria and infections caused by mites, ticks or lice. This capsule is also used to treat blemishes, bumps and acne like lesions caused by rosacea.

However, uses mentioned here are not comprehensive. There may be other conditions for which the capsule may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

Lenteclin LB capsule is a combination of Doxycycline (100mg) and Lactobacillus 5 Billion spores.

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that prevents the growth of bacteria by blocking the synthesis of essential proteins required by the bacteria from being synthesized to carryout vital functions. Lactobacillus is a live microorganism that restores the balance of good bacteria in the intestine that may get upset with antibiotic use or due to intestinal infections.

Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their healthcare professionals before taking Lenteclin LB capsule.

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the constituents used in the capsule.
  • Allergic reactions to tetracyclines
  • Caution:
  • Photosensitivity: The capsule may increase the risk of sunburn. This risk is especially higher in patients exposed to ultraviolet light or direct sunlight.
  • Patients with history of intracranial hypertension
  • Patients with asthma, liver or kidney disease

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Lenteclin LB capsule. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Sensitivity to the sun
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Temporary discolouring of adult teeth
  • Hives
  • Fatigue

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Dehydration
  • Weight loss
  • Blurry vision
  • Anaemia
  • Stomach cramping and pain
  • Pain in your upper abdomen
  • Difficult or painful urination
  • Vaginal infection
How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Take the capsule immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not crush the capsule.

Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember, but if its almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time. Don’t change the dose or stop the drug.

Take the capsule with or without food. Take with glass full of water and remain upright for at least 30 mins.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms vary but you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Inflammation of heart muscles
  • Haemolytic anaemia
  • Swelling of face, hands, lower legs

Complete avoidance or dosage adjustments of the Lenteclin LB capsule may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

This capsule should be used with caution in patients with renal problems as it might lower blood sugar levels. Closely monitor blood glucose levels. Dose adjustments may be needed. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

Lenteclin LB Capsule should be used with caution in patients with moderate and severe liver disease as it increases bile production. If you have any hepatic problems, we recommend you to consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

This medicine is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since the effect of the medicine on fetus is not clearly established, we recommend that you to consult your doctor before consuming the capsule.

Lactation:

This medicine is probably unsafe for use by nursing mothers as there is a risk of side effects on the infant. If the medicine is given, the infant should be monitored closely for any adverse effects.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol may reduce the effectiveness of Lenteclin LB capsule. Hence patients are advised not to consume alcohol while receiving this medication. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

Driving:

Since this capsule may decrease alertness, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Foods such as antacids, calcium enriches foods and dairy products bind with doxycycline, preventing your body from fully absorbing the drug.

Drug Interactions:
  • Warfarin
  • Ethynyl estradiol
  • Digoxin
  • Calcium gluconate
  • Penicillin
  • Seizure drugs: Barbiturates, phenytoin, Carbamazepine
  • Isotretinion can increase the risk of intracranial hypertension when taken with doxycycline

What is Doxycycline for:

This medication is broad-spectrum antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such as pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections, Lyme’s disease, infections of skin, genital, and urinary systems and anthrax.

How does Doxycycline work:

Doxycycline works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

How should Doxycycline be used:

Adults: The usual dose is 200 mg on the first day of treatment in divided doses, followed by a maintenance dose of 100 mgday. Child: The recommended dosage is 2 mglb of body weight divided into two doses. It comes as a capsule and suspension to take by mouth, with food.

Common side effects of Doxycycline :

Belly pain. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. Not hungry. For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge. Side effects from Periostat® are less.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Doxycycline :

If you have an allergy to doxycycline or any other part of this drug. If you have a sulfite allergy, talk with your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have liver disease. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad headache. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Doxycycline with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
