Lomotil Tab is not recommended to treat diarrhoea caused by infection by bacteria or other organisms. However, the uses mentioned here may not be exhaustive. Lomotil Tab is an anti-diarrhea medication which works by slowing down the contraction of the intestines thereby decreasing the speed at which the contents pass through it. Diphenoxylate is an opioid agonist which decreases contractions of the intestines making the stools more solid and less frequent. This ingredient In higher doses may cause euphoria. To prevent its abuse and physical dependence, atropine is added in small quantities.

How to Use

Lomotil Tab can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. The dose and duration should be followed as prescribed by your doctor. It is best to take this medicine at a fixed time. It is important that this medicine should not be taken more than the recommended dose.
Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not try to break/crush/chew the tablet. It is important to drink plenty of water as diarrhea can cause water loss and electrolyte imbalance.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take Lomotil Tab as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take it at the next scheduled time. Do not take two doses of this medicine at the same time as it can be dangerous to your health.
This medicine should be taken only by the person for whom it has been recommended by a qualified physician.

How does Atropine work:

Atropine helps treat some of the harmful effects caused by some poisonings. - It lowers secretions. - It fires up the heart. - Eye: - It makes the eye pupils larger.

How should Atropine be used:

Solution: For the eye only. - Take out contact lenses before using this drug. - Lenses may be put back in 15 minutes after this drug is given. - Do not put contacts back in if your eyes are irritated or infected. - Do not touch the container tip to the eye, lid, or other skin. - Tilt your head back and drop drug into the eye.- After use, keep your eyes closed. - Put pressure on the inside corner of the eye. Do this for 1 to 2 minutes. - This keeps the drug in your eye. - Space each eye drug by 5 minutes. Ointment: - For the eye only. - Take out contact lenses before using this drug. - Lenses may be put back in 15 minutes after this drug is given. Do not put contacts back in if your eyes are irritated or infected. - Do not touch the container tip to the eye, lid, or other skin. - Place drug inside the lower lid. Close the eye for 1 to 2 minutes. - Roll eyeball around. - Space each eye drug by 10 minutes. Shot: - It is given as a shot into a muscle or vein.

Fast heartbeat. - Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. - Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. - Hard stools (constipation). - Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. - Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative.

If you have an allergy to atropine or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Bowel block, glaucoma, or a large prostate gland.

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. A fast heartbeat. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
