      Meaxon 1ML injection contains mecobalamin, a man-made form of vitamin B12, which is important for nerve health, brain function and used in various conditions such as anaemia (blood disorder caused due to vitamin B12 deficiency), peripheral neuropathy (damage to the peripheral nerves that are present outside the brain and spinal cord, resulting in weakness, numbness and pain), megaloblastic anaemia (condition in which bone marrow produces abnormal and immature red blood cells), and used as supplementation during pregnancy. It improves nerve conduction and speed, which reduces nerve pain, regulates blood calcium levels in the body, protein synthesis and ensures proper growth and functioning of the body. However, the uses of the injection mentioned here are not exhaustive, there may be other reasons or situations in which the medicine might be used.

      How to Use

      Do not self-administer Meaxon 1ML injection, your nurse or trained physician will give you the medicine. Follow all the instructions given by your doctor carefully. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule.
      The injection can be taken with or without food. Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to take the medicine till the time you see an improvement in your health conditions or as advised by your doctor

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. Since Meaxon 1ML injection will be given by doctor or nurse, therefore it is less likely that you will receive overdose of the medicine. If there should be an occurrence of unplanned excess, look for any new signs or symptoms. Depending on the dose, symptoms may vary in individuals, you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

      • Difficulty concentrating
      • Restless or irritability

      Kidney:

      This injection is probably safe to use in patients with renal diseases. Since there is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking this injection for renal patients, consult your doctor if you have renal problems and stay on the safe side.

      Liver:

      This injection is probably safe to use in patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the medicine may not be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before taking injection.

      Pregnancy:

      Use of this medicine in pregnancy is considered safe unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown low or no effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before taking this injection.

      Lactation:

      The medicine is likely safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass through the breastmilk and does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

      Alcohol:

      Interaction of alcohol with this injection is unknown. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments of the medicine may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

      Driving:

      It is used to prevent and treat low vitamin B12. Lack of vitamin B12 may cause anemia and damage to the nerves. It is used to treat diabetic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy.

      How should mecobalamin be used:

      Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.

      Can I take mecobalamin with other medicines:

      Use with neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, cimetidine and cochicine will decrease absorption. Inform doctor about all other drugs you are taking including herbals.
