Medrol Tablet 16mg is a steroid used as an anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive agent. It is also used in treating allergic conditions, inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, endocrine disorders. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.



The active ingredient of Medrol Tablet 16mg is Methylprednisolone 16mg.

Methylprednisolone is a steroid that prevents the release of inflammation-causing agents. Therefore, helps in treating allergies, reducing inflammation and preventing worsening of the condition.

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Medrol Tablet 16mg should be taken with food.
Swallow the Medrol Tablet 16mg whole immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break/cut/chew it instead.
Take the medication at the prescribed time and dosage.
Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which may be dangerous to your health.


Avoid using more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, look for any new symptoms. If you observe any, promptly seek medical advice or report it to the nearby poison control center.

Take the Medrol Tablet 16mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:


Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this Medrol Tablet 16mg.


Caution advised among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this Medrol Tablet 16mg.


Caution advised during pregnancy, especially during 1 trimester or with long term use. Possible chances of low birth weight/premature birth based on insufficient human data.


May be used during breastfeeding. However, if you take the tablet, take a gap of 8-12 hours to feed your baby.

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the Medrol Tablet 16mg beyond its expiry.

What is Methylprednisolone for:

This medication is a corticosteroid prescribed for severe allergies, arthritis, asthma, certain blood disorders and skin conditions.

How does Methylprednisolone work:

It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.

How should Methylprednisolone be used:

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food. It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein. The recommended dose range is 4 to 32mgday. IV- 1gm every 6 – 8 weeks.

Common side effects of Methylprednisolone :

High blood sugar. This most often goes back to normal when drug is stopped. Chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu. Belly pain. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Weight gain. Mood changes. Change in body fat. Weak bones with long-term use. Muscle weakness. Skin changes (pimples, stretch marks, slow healing, hair growth). Cataracts or glaucoma with long-term use. For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Methylprednisolone :

If you have an allergy to methylprednisolone or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have a bad infection.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Feeling very tired, weak, or touchy; trembling; having a fast heartbeat, confusion, sweating, or dizziness if you missed a dose or recently stopped this drug. Trouble breathing. A big weight gain. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Sudden change in eyesight. If you have been exposed to chickenpox and have not had chickenpox or had a chickenpox vaccine. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Methylprednisolone with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
