      Mefkind Forte tablet is a combination medicine used to relieve mild to moderate pain associated with musculoskeletal and joint pain, headache, dental pain, inflammation (redness and swelling), musculoskeletal sprains and strains both in infants and children. This medicine is also used in the relief of post operative pain. It may also be used to provide temporary relief from fever and pain without treating the underlying cause. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      The active ingredients of Mefkind Forte tablet are Mefenamic acid 250MG and Paracetamol 325MG

      Mefenamic acid and paracetamol are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that stops the release of certain chemicals called prostaglandins, which cause pain and inflammation in the body. It also decreases the severity of pain by blocking the signals to the brain.

      How to Use

      Take Mefkind Forte tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet should be taken with food. The tablet is usually taken not more than twice a day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Mefkind Forte tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Nausea and vomiting
      • Pallor
      • Glucose metabolism abnormalities

      Use this tablet on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Mefkind Forte tablet may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe kidney diseases.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the medicine may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine. Any symptoms such as nausea, fever, dark urine etc should be reported to your doctor immediately. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe liver diseases.

      Pregnancy:

      It is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This medicine is not considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since limited information is available about the safety of taking this tablet, consult your doctor if you are nursing mother and stay on the safe side.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with this medicine is not recommended as it increases side effects of the medicine such as gastrointestinal bleeding, dizziness, drowsiness etc. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the medicine, report to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      There are no known food interactions with this medicine.

      Drug Interactions:

      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Mefkind Forte tablet with levodopa, diclofenac, diazepam, ciclosporin, aspirin, warfarin, corticosteroids, tacrolimus, digoxin, methotrexate, furosemide, lithium, glimepiride, atropine.

      What is Mefenamic Acid for:

      This medication is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), prescribed for dysmenorrhea and other pain. It decreases inflammation and uterine contractions.

      How does Mefenamic Acid work:

      Mefenamic acid blocks chemicals that cause pain. It lowers fever by changing the bodys thermostat in the brain.

      How should Mefenamic Acid be used:

      It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with or without food. The recommended dose is 500 mg as an initial dose followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as needed.

      Common side effects of Mefenamic Acid :

      Belly pain or heartburn. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

      What precautions should I take when taking Mefenamic Acid :

      If you have an allergy to mefenamic acid or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: GI (gastrointestinal) bleeding, kidney disease, or ulcer disease. If you are more than 24 weeks pregnant.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Chest pain or pressure. Change in strength on 1 side is greater than the other, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, or blurred eyesight. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very bad belly pain. Very bad swelling or pain of hands or feet. A big weight gain. Black, tarry, or bloody stools. Blood in the urine. Very loose stools (diarrhea). Any bruising or bleeding. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
