Methycobal tablet is a nutritional and dietary supplement prescribed for the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency, anaemias of nutritional supplements, pernicious anaemia and peripheral neuropathies. It is taken to regulate certain bodily functions like protein synthesis, blood formation and cell multiplication. The medicine improves nerve conduction and speed, which reduces nerve pain and improves neuropathy and regulates blood calcium levels in the body. However, the uses of the medicine mentioned are not exhaustive, there may be other reasons or situations in which the medicine might be used.

How to Use

 

How to Use
Take Methycobal tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the tablet can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach occurs, you could take it with food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.
Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. Just in case of accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. If you notice that you have any abnormal reactions in your body after taking this tablet, contact your doctor immediately. Based on the dosage of Methycobal tablet, symptoms may vary from individual to individual. It is possible that you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

Kidney:

Since there is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking this tablet for renal patients, consult your doctor if you have renal problems and stay on the safe side.

Liver:

Since there is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking this tablet for hepatic patients, consult your doctor if you have hepatic problems and stay on the safe side.

Pregnancy:

Use of Methycobal tablet is not recommended in pregnant women. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown no or low adverse effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consumption of this medicine.

Lactation:

This medication is passed to infants through mother’s milk. Breastfed infants should be closely monitored. Since limited information is available about the safety of taking this tablet, consult your doctor if you are nursing mother and stay on the safe side.

Alcohol:
Consumption of alcohol with this medicine is not recommended as it increases side effects such as of the medicine. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the tablet should be reported to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

Driving:

This medicine does not cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

There are no known food interactions with this tablet.

Alert your doctor if you are taking Methycobal tablet with amino salicylic acid, antibiotics (chloramphenicol), oral contraceptives, phenytoin, colchicine, neomycin, omeprazole, cisplatin, altretamine, methotrexate.

It is used to prevent and treat low vitamin B12. Lack of vitamin B12 may cause anemia and damage to the nerves. It is used to treat diabetic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy.

How should mecobalamin be used:

Can I take mecobalamin with other medicines:

Use with neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, cimetidine and cochicine will decrease absorption. Inform doctor about all other drugs you are taking including herbals.

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue with your normal diet.

How do I store mecobalamin :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
