Metrogyl Compound Plus tablet is a combination of 3 drugs. The medicine is used to treat asymptomatic intestinal amebiases such as loose stools, abdominal cramping, and stomach pain. This tablet also helps to treat certain infections caused by protozoa and certain strains of anaerobic bacteria and also relieves from painful pressure caused by excess gas in the stomach and intestines. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.
The active ingredients of Metrogyl Compound Plus Tablet are Diloxanide Furoate 375mg, Ornidazole 250mg, and Simethicone 25mg.
The exact mechanism of action of Diloxanide Furoate is unknown but it is believed to be that this drug may inhibit the protein synthesis of bacteria or a parasite.
Ornidazole is a 5 nitroimidazole derivative which acts by the destruction of helical DNA structure, inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death in the susceptible bacteria.
Simethicone works by reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles, therefore, spread and arrest gas pockets In the gastrointestinal tract.

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Metrogyl Compound Plus Tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:
Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow Metrogyl Compound Plus Tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip.
Do not break/cut/chew the tablet. If you forget your dose take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the tablet with or without food, Preferably after food to minimize the gastric problems.
Dosage as recommended by your doctor or follow the instructions given on the prescription.
Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, look for any new symptoms. If you observe any, promptly seek medical advice or report it to the nearby poison control center.

Adult: PO- The recommended dose is 500 mg 3 timesday for 10 days. May repeat course if needed. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.
Flatulence, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, itching and hives.
Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Trouble breathing. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Sudden change in eyesight, eye pain, or irritation. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
