      Metrozap 100ML IV (intravenous) infusion is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent, which is used in treating serious infections of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, heart, lungs, bones, genital areas, skin, joints and other areas of the body caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria. It is prescribed in treating trichomoniasis in both males and females, giardiasis, amoebic dysentery, anaerobic bacterial infection, antibiotic associated pseudomembranous colitis and in helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. However, the uses of the medicine mentioned are not exhaustive, there may be other reasons or situations in which the medicine might be used.

      • Hypersensitivity to metronidazole and other nitroimidazoles
      • Concomitant use with disulfiram within the last 14 days

      How to Use

      Do not self-administer Metrozap injection, your nurse or trained physician will give you the medicine. If self-administered, take the injection at the prescribed dose and time. Follow all the instructions given by your doctor carefully. Continue to take the medicine till the time you see an improvement in your health conditions or as advised by your doctor.
      Metrozap 100ML injection may be taken with or without food. It may be taken with food to reduce gastric discomfort.

      Overdosage

      Try not to take more than recommended measurements. Since Metrozap 100ML injection will be given by doctor or nurse, therefore it is less likely that you will receive overdose of the medicine. If there should be an occurrence of unplanned excess, look for any new signs or symptoms. On the off chance that you notice any, instantly look for clinical guidance or report it to the close poison control centre. Depending on the dosage of the medicine, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Nausea

      Use this injection only on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Metrozap injection may be required in the following conditions:

      Kidney:

      Extreme caution is advised among patients with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before taking infusion.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among patients with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the medicine may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

      Pregnancy:

      Metrozap injection is not recommended during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown no or low adverse effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consumption of this medicine.

      Lactation:

      The medicine should be used with caution during breastfeeding. There is a possible risk of infant diarrhea and oral thrush based upon the limited human data and no human data available to evaluate effects on milk production.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with metrozap infusion is not recommended for 3 days as it increases side effects such as tachycardia, dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the injection should be reported to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments of the medicine may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

      Driving:

      Metrozap injection may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, so do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Unless your doctor instructs otherwise there are no specific dietary requirements while taking Metrozap injection.

      Drug Interactions:

      Alert your doctor if you are taking Metrozap injection with any of the below medicines:
      • Warfarin
      • Ethinyl estradiol
      • Atorvastatin
      • Phenytoin
      • Phenobarbital
      • Ciclosporin
      • Lithium
      • Disulfiram

      Metronidazole may cause diarrhoea, nausea, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, constipation and dark or tea-coloured urine. These side effects are usually temporary. If you have diarrhoea, drink lots of water to replace the fluids lost. However, if you have severe diarrhoea or diarrhoea with severe stomach cramps or bloody stools, alert your doctor.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.
