Metwyn XL 25MG tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as beta- blockers, is used to treat hypertension (elevation of blood pressure caused by genetic or environmental factors), prevents angina (heart related chest pain), irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmia), congestive heart failure and other heart complications. It also aids in prevention of migraines, heart attacks and stroke. The medicine works by slowing down the activity of your heart allowing it to beat slower and less forcefully and also relaxes the blood vessels and improves blood flow and oxygen in the body, thereby reducing the risk of getting chest pain. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood pressure for best possible effects. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

It also normalizes the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and improves blood flow and oxygen in the body, thereby reducing the risk of getting chest pain.

How to Use

How to Use

Take Metwyn XL 25MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Metwyn XL 25MG tablet may be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Metwyn XL 25MG tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

Kidney:

The medicine is safe to use among patients with kidney problems. Adjustments of dose of the medicine may not be needed. However, if you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

Metwyn XL 25MG is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is likely unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Metwyn XL 25MG tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as difficulty in concentration, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

Food:

Avoid grape fruit juice as it may alter serum levels.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Metwyn XL 25MG tablet with cyclopropane, insulin, quinidine, fluoxetine, clonidine, reserpine, diltiazem, verapamil, barbiturates, phenothiazine, indomethacin, mono-amino oxidase inhibitors.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Metoprolol :

Can I take Metoprolol with other medicines:

Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - - other medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease, especially clonidine, prazosin. - migraine medicines such as ergotamine. - rifampicin (a TB medicine). Do not take antacids together with Metoprolol. Antacids may affect the effectiveness of Metoprolol. If you must take antacids, take it at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Metoprolol. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
