Monocef O CV Tablet 200mg is an antibiotic fight against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. This medicine is most commonly used to treat mild to moderate infections such as of pharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, skin and skin structure, UTI, upper and lower respiratiry tract etc., caused by susceptible strains of the designated bacteria. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctors discretion.
The active ingredients of Monocef O CV Tablet 200mg are Cefpodoxime 200mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg.
Cefpodoxime interferes with the production of complex molecules in the cells and resists the cell wall assembly of the microorganism and ramification of cell death in bacteria.
Clavulanic Acid Inhibits cell wall mucopeptide synthesis, in addition to this, this drug also inhibits the beta-lactamases, which are the enzymes produced by bacteria that provide multi-resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics, This is how shows its bacteriocidal property.

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Consume the Monocef O CV Tablet 200mg whole with a glass of water immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break /chew/cut the tablet whole.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.

Cefpodoxime: This drug may be used during pregnancy only if the need is clearly established. Regardless, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the treatment.
Clavulanic Acid: Do not use this drug until unless suggested by your doctor, First inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become on pregnant.
Cefpodoxime: This drug may pass into breast milk but harm to the baby is not expected based on the minimal excretion of the drug into the breast milk.
Clavulanic Acid: Caution advised during lactation, this drug may excrete into breast milk and make the infant sensitization, thereforeinform your doctor if you are a nursing mother.
The levels of Cefpodoxime with food may get decreased.
Caution always advised when used with other medicines inform your doctor about your current list of medication which you start or stop, especially, Antacids and H2 blockers may decrease the absorption rate of cefpodoxime and also reduced renal excretion with Probencide and other medicines which interacts with Clavulanic acid such as Allopurinol, Probenicide, Warfarin, and other antibiotics.
Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor combined with certain penicillin antibiotics to overcome antibiotic resistance
Addition of clavulanic acid re-establishes the activity of amoxicillin against bacterias resistant to amoxicillin.

GI tolerance is poor specially in children. Other side effects are Candida stomatitisvaginitis and rashes. Some cases of hepatic injury have been reported with the combination.
Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
If you have an allergy to calcium polystyrene sulfonate or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low potassium. Very bad belly pain. Very hard stools (constipation). Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
Avoid Alcohol
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters).
